We have an old, broken, full-size upright piano in our basement that I want out. We checked into getting it fixed and were told it's not worth it. Tried to give it to a charity that refurbishes pianos for schools, etc. and they don't want it. Had a junk hauler come out and they don't want to mess with it either.
Forty plus years ago some of my cousins hauled it to our house in their pick-up truck and put it in there (walk-out basement and back then I'm sure they drove the truck around to the back door). What a pain. May have a piano smashing party - bring your own maul or sawsall. Followed by a nice big fire in the fire pit for a couple days. Either that or have Brent come over with his forklift.
The sound board is solid cast metal that I'm told weighs about 300# on its own.

Trebuchet time.
If I had the skills, time, equipment and money to build one capable of flinging this piano, I could get rid of it in a quiet, legal way instead. The trebuchet could put it into the middle of our pond, but it'd be a navigation hazard during summer canoeing or winter skating, or it could maybe clear the pond and land in someone's back yard. That would likely get me in trouble.
Leave it to the techie to bring up medieval weaponry.
I am awesome. I wanted a coke and candy bar from the vending machines, but my stash of quarters at my desk is gone, so I grabbed a handful of dimes and nickels. Start putting coins in the machine, get a twix, start putting coins in the coke machine and end up having the exact correct change for buying a coke and candy bar.
But quiet and legal are no fun. Besides, if you set it on fire, there's that much less chance you'll run into something wooden with your canoe.
Yeah, but it's not going to stay on fire long if he deposits it into the water.
Yeah, the forklift would make short work of that. Thats just a whole lot of dead weight. But yeah, that would be really cool to see go flying thru the air.We have an old, broken, full-size upright piano in our basement that I want out. It is $1 for a candy bar and $1.35 for a coke here. Definitely a ripoff. Dam aramark.Vending machines here have $1.25 drinks and $.85 candy bars...terrible system. I never have the extra dime on me.
Here in the east we call that lucky (and I don't mean in a DL kinda way...).I am awesome.
