Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 84: Steal This.

Hi Lodge
I'm not reading back 10 pages

Spent the weekend in Duluth. Mrs. Gonzo's brother and sil were in from Conifer, CO visiting mil. Nice time. Oldest kid and his girlfriend came up as well. Since his girlfriend had never been to Duluth and points north, we did the quintessential Duluth thing. Lunch at Grandma's, scenic route north on 61 to Russ Kendalls for some smoked salmon, topped off by a swing into Betty's pies. Since we went that far, Mrs. insisted we go to Beaver Bay so she could go to the quilt shop there. Oldest kid and I went over to the Green Door and had a couple of cold ones while we waited :p

I do really hate the construction stretch on 35, but it should be nice when it's done. In two weeks I'm headed to Grand Marais and into the hills for some much needed grouse hunting. :)

You might want to read the happenings from last night, about 3 pages worth. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 84: Steal This.

??? why dish when directv has sunday ticket and you could then never miss a giants game??:(

True, but this was an economical decision given what I'll be doing for the next year or two. I didn't have to pay for the dish, installation, and my service is 34$ for a bunch of the Fox Sports channels, Bravo, Discovery, and pretty much any other channel that I would watch. The apartment came with a dish, so all I had to get was the receiver.

Annoyed I missed the game, but did enjoy the New England game and I was more productive. Also watched the San Diego game.

Les- that really sucks for Li'l. Reading your stories, plus things my siblings experienced, I'd really be hesitant to let them play sports as they get older. Parents are really out of control these days.

Well, as long as you make sure he doesn't put both hands on your back.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 84: Steal This.

Yeah.

Tried the best we could to deal but lil is destroyed. He lives for hockey. His whole life is centered around it. He did everything they asked. Basically they found kids better than him and wanted to use them so he needed to go. One of his team mates from last yr will be next- they already started on his dad about how he is going to get hurt, doesn't pay attention, etc.

this some sort of politics game? I'm really glad I don't know how the hockey game works at the sub-college level. IMO, it seems to me once you've got a team you should keep it... if its year round or semi-year-round they shouldn't be able to make changes on such a routine fashion.

   Yikes!!!

Didn't go to Fall Fest today. Felt pretty lousy. Was probably from the 4 chair massages that I got yesterday as part of my weekend seminar at AAIMT. Thats a lot of body work.:o

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 84: Steal This.

Working on it. Unfortunately he is small. In the last month he has been skating with this team he improved immensly. He also worked every shift, right thru. Anything that is available to him is going to be down several levels. He has potential but not body mass. Not a good mix at this age when there are plenty of kids that are bigger and have the same skill set.

The only reason this would be SOMEWHAT justifiable is if this is a travel team/highest level of play, where realistically only the best should be. If this is a house league team, or lower level/lowest level, it's uncalled for, and nothing short of bull****. At this level, the kids deserve to play, winning comes second, nothing more nothing less. I would bring this up with the association if thats an option and have this guy canned, it shouldn't be happening in minor hockey.

Betty's Pies. Win. So. Much. Win.

And les: too bad there's no vigilante justice.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 84: Steal This.

Holy cow les!! I just read what happened. That is just so wrong. I know it probably doesn't feel this way, especially for your son, but he's probably better off not being around that atmosphere.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 84: Steal This.

We'll see how well this turns out. Trying to make a version of chunky soup with beef, vegetables, beef broth and beef gravy. We'll know in the morning.

Should I expect to see a mushroom cloud over Adrian anytime soon?? ;)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 84: Steal This.

Not unless something really goes awry with my electrical in the house. It's in the crock pot for the night.

Probably true - it's tough to find the line between competitiveness and a-hattery, but l'il's on the wrong side. :( Here's hoping that he can find a team that actually helps him develop, rather than cuts him at the worst time.

Sounds like a winner to me. If it's not a particularly connective-tissue-rich (meaning tough) cut of meat, you could try adding a packet of plain gelatin to improve the texture...?

It's in the crock pot for the next 9 1/2 hours. Meat toughness isn't an issue. I'm more concerned with the gravy and making sure it doesn't break down or separate from the broth.

It's almost exactly what Campbell's Chunky Soup is. Bigger chunks of things, and with gravy instead of broth.

I just had an image of beef flavored Jell-o and wanted to puke.
