Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 81: Trickle-Down Lodganomics
(going by Yelp) I think I might pass... I have neither appropriate attire nor the desire to spend in that range (yelp says $$$ 31-60... realize I come from a $-$$ mentality)... will keep that in mind though.
If it's Ralph's favorite restaurant, maybe he's buying.
*sigh* Ethics are tough. I was just informed that we're having another Union layoff (our 3rd one this year...slowly we will get to the point where we no longer have any assembly work going on here). Anyway, I was asked if my friend in inspection is crucial to the completion of the project I'm currently working on.
Umm...he's crucial to my sanity. Does that count? He's great at his job and no one else here knows the inspection equipment like he does (except maybe me). The person that fills in for him when he's out, I usually just end up doing the work or have to take the time to train her. She'd be the one doing his job if he is laid off (ahh seniority, because how long you've been here is more important than how good you are at your job). The other person could learn the job and probably get to be acceptable at it....but yes, it will effect the timeline. There are many reasons it would be good for the current inspector to stay.
Could I work my *rse off and get everything done myself? Yes. But I'd have to work even more hours and they'd be relying on me actually staying motivated.
So, I told the truth about what the current guy brings to the table and how I feel the person that would replace him would do. Now I guess it's up to management if they try to jump through hoops to save the guy. Of course, saving him, probably means someone else gets laid off.
At least now I know another reason I don't want to be a manager. Being part of the decision as to who gets laid off (let alone having to tell them).
