Good morning, Lodge! Already have the dishes washed and the trash taken to the road, which isn't bad for today. Now if I could find the time to get some baking done...

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 81: Trickle-Down Lodganomics

There are actually some good players in this game, but they just fall prey to bad luck (and, for some reason, players like me who go all-in with nothing (A-3, off suit) thinking that it's about time to go home, then get two aces on the board - I think I beat pocket queens on that hand :o ).

I think the highlight of my night was when the game was down to three players. I was short-stack, but not doing terrible. Deal was K-J off-suit. Dealer folds, I call the big blind from the small, big blind raises, I think about it for a minute, then call. Flop comes up 4-5-6. I quickly go all-in. Opponent balks and folds.

Ah, fun night. Bedtime now.

(Sorry to everyone else for the poker talk.)

What is this TRP circa 2005/2006?

Morning. At the office. That's all.

Alright I can get back to sleeping and posting more now.

I took my GMAT's last night so the studying is over.

I scored a 640, which is probably good enough for get me into a good MBA program I was so mad. I like totally choked on the math section for some reason. They were asking like elementary questions and I just couldn't get my math right. If I would have done anywhere near respectable on that section I would have easily scored in the 700.

the stuff they hide in that town really shocks me... that entire area is absolutely random.

ONR moved about a block since I was there. They used to be on Quincy Street and now are on Randolph.

:D I was a new employee when you were born, assuming the date contained in your profile is correct.

I've been at my job for over 30 years. It amazes me when I think of all the people I've worked for and with through the years. Many of of them have passed, and a few are still here. I enjoy the look on the faces of new hires who ask how long I've worked here. :D

I usually tell them "When I started here you were still jumping from ball to ball trying to keep from being a bass turd"

yeah, i think i walked by there when i was apartment hunting... its just a strange mix of luxury housing, company space, business space, and the occasional business* that's been operating before all the large buildings were built.

*the IHOP in the middle of it all was quite awesome.

Morning Lodge!

Somehow I slept from about 7-9:30 last night, then was actually able to fall back asleep at about 10:30 and slept straight through to 6:30 this morning. I feel refreshed!

It's what happens are Metro stops in general. Twenty years ago, there was a miniature golf course across from Ballston Common where the NSF is now. I agree that it is a strange mix.

This sounds an awful lot like my plans for the weekend.

:(

I move down there (Courthouse) in 13 days... should be interesting... I think it'll be awhile until I can fit in with the environment there but I'm looking forward to it.

Go to Ray's the Steaks (2300 Wilson Blvd), my favorite restaurant.

(going by Yelp) I think I might pass... I have neither appropriate attire nor the desire to spend in that range (yelp says $$$ 31-60... realize I come from a $-$$ mentality)... will keep that in mind though.

You have appropriate attire. The cost, although it can be in that range, doesn't have to be. There are specials (soup or salad, entree, desert) for $24.

Ray's Hell Burger, several blocks toward Rosslyn, which is owned by the same person and was visited a couple of months ago by President Obama, is also worth visiting. It's a lot cheaper.

If it's Ralph's favorite restaurant, maybe he's buying. :D

*sigh* Ethics are tough. I was just informed that we're having another Union layoff (our 3rd one this year...slowly we will get to the point where we no longer have any assembly work going on here). Anyway, I was asked if my friend in inspection is crucial to the completion of the project I'm currently working on.
Umm...he's crucial to my sanity. Does that count? He's great at his job and no one else here knows the inspection equipment like he does (except maybe me). The person that fills in for him when he's out, I usually just end up doing the work or have to take the time to train her. She'd be the one doing his job if he is laid off (ahh seniority, because how long you've been here is more important than how good you are at your job). The other person could learn the job and probably get to be acceptable at it....but yes, it will effect the timeline. There are many reasons it would be good for the current inspector to stay.

Could I work my *rse off and get everything done myself? Yes. But I'd have to work even more hours and they'd be relying on me actually staying motivated.

So, I told the truth about what the current guy brings to the table and how I feel the person that would replace him would do. Now I guess it's up to management if they try to jump through hoops to save the guy. Of course, saving him, probably means someone else gets laid off.

At least now I know another reason I don't want to be a manager. Being part of the decision as to who gets laid off (let alone having to tell them).

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 81: Trickle-Down Lodganomics

Howdy gang. Still have my headache. It's worse today. Went to bed at 9:30 last night, tried to sleep it off. Wound up staying at work all day - maybe today I will leave early. So much to do, though.
