Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 78: The Rep Lodge Yacht club.

I still can't classify it as an actual sport.

Oh and whats the point of starting the at bat at 1-1?

That's misleading, although the idea is the same. It's a 3ball-2strike count, fouls always count as strikes. The announcers just kept saying the count starts at 1-1 to relate it to baseball. It's to encourage a batter to swing and to speed up the game, I guess. Most leagues/tourneys have a rule that don't allow an inning to start after an hour or other specified time limit, unless the game is tied.

You get some bigger tourneys, like the Crystal Frolics, or the Dudley Classic (two of the biggest in MN, IIRC 30+ teams in each) and if you didn't have a time limit, the tourney would never end.

And it's a sport. More a sport than a lot of Olympic "sports" they allow, or what others call a "sport" instead of a "game" (golf, I'm looking in your direction). ;)

Yup.

Off Manitou right now, looks like we'll be near Duluth tomorrow but traffic at the coal dock, so we'll either be tying up at another dock or anchoring outside Duluth until it's free.

had dinner in Copper Harbor this evening. saw you and another big guy in front of you. and somebody downbound. busy night on the lakes!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 78: The Rep Lodge Yacht club.

Wife's birthday today and she wanted dinner made for her at home. Kid made cesare salad and I made Sole Bon Famme with chocolate mousse for desert. Went pretty well except for the mousse. I messed up and it was more like fudge than mousse. :o :( Put lots of whipped creme on it and everyone ate it anyway.

Okay, aside from that being just hilarious due to the stupidity, did anyone else get links after the video to rally cars crashing into spectators? I thought NASCAR fans are dumb, they're nothing compared to these rally car fans.

I didn't, but I've seen those before. Yeah, they're nuts.

Hey now.

Ok, ok, I admit, a lot of people who go watch rally races are drunken idiots who think nothing of getting within a foot of a Subaru topping 90 mph on a rutted dirt road. But on the other hand, rallies are the closest thing to a sport of any racing... a real car on a crappy road, with amazing drivers who can wrestle a ton and a half of steel around trees and the aforementioned drunkards.

Rally racing is pretty cool, much better than Circle-Me-Bert NASCAR. I'm just pointing out that the fans attending the races are morons.

Afternoon Lodge!

Went and picked up my birthday present - a bike. Just went for a nice hour ride on the Greenway (a paved path that runs all around, over, under and through Cheyenne.)
I went for a 12 mile run before work; it was glorious. No boss, no family, just me and the road, and I knocked it out in 2 hours and 20 minutes.

At least work didn't suck today; hopefully tomorrow will be the same. I'd like to come home and enjoy a drink for once.

True, some are morons, but that's the case with any (motor)sport... and from the rallies I've seen the average fan seems smarter than the NASCAR stereotype. Rallying just gives natural selection a bit more room to operate. ;)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 78: The Rep Lodge Yacht club.

Men's slow pitch softball is ridiculous. Why does this sport even exist as an international event?

Currently 24-16 USA over Canada in the 4th.

Oh and apparently the US is in trouble because they only have 1 HR left (after that they are outs) and they don't have a big enough lead.

Umm so the obvious question. If HRs are a detriment, why does every guy on the team look like he's 6-3, 240. Mix in a few singles hitters!

Who won?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 78: The Rep Lodge Yacht club.

USA, something like 28-20 or something. I dunno. Even I got bored because of the horrid announcing, so I kinda tuned out. USA had a HUGE inning, maybe 18 runs or so, in the fifth. That is where the HR limit talk took place.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 78: The Rep Lodge Yacht club.

It blew my mind how easy it was to beat Dracula in Simon's Quest. It's like an even bigger kick in your junk after doing all the BS in between. You know... Like kneeling in front of a wall while holding a red crysytal (if you figured that out and were anal enough to talk to EVERYONE in EVERY town).
I guess we know what happens when philosophy dominates a game - in this case, "life's a journey, not a destination" ruled the day and delivered a really ****ty ending. All the bosses in the first game were tougher than Dracula in the second one - that's just wrong.
At least the music for the game ruled.
The music at the end had an ominous feel to it, which added to the junk-kicking sensation upon fighting the last battle.

Being able to kill the end boss while he's still in his frigging entrance animation is just wrong.

USA 31-23.

They actually hit the HR limit the next inning on a couple "accidental" solo HRs. The 4th was a 17 run inning. Before that Canada had led the entire way.

I tuned in 8 runs into that 4th inning.

From the "I can't make this up" department:
A movie is coming on at 2 a.m. on the gay channel (LOGO) and it's called "Starrbooty". Here's the plot summary: "After her niece is kidnapped, a sassy secret agent/supermodel goes undercover as a hooker".

Wrong as hell:

I may be feeling the effects of booze.
12K people in a poker tourney, one that costs 5 points (which you earn when playing for real money, it's not that much)
Currently sitting 156 out of 254. $1.75 in real money winning so far. Yay me.
