Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 77: Arcade Games of the Reagan 80s

So you're flying to southern Indiana to go to Ohio and Kentucky...makes sense. :p
I'm flying into Indianapolis, and driving south from there. I have to be there for work from the 22nd - 31st. Since there isn't anything to do in southern Indiana, I thought I might drive to Cincinnati or Louisville over the weekend to find something to do.

I found a free app for my blackberry to use it as a golf GPS device. No need to spend money on a sky caddie!:)

I do like the idea of rollover limits though. So you can still have days saved, but you aren't just stockpiling to take 2 months off at a time (not that an employer would allow that).
Even working for the federal government, they require you to get special approval to take more than two weeks off at a time. The reason for limiting leave accumulation from one year to the next is they don't want to be stuck paying many thousands of dollars in one shot to people that are quitting / retiring (any unused annual leave requires a lump sum payment upon separation from federal service).

If I worked 10 years and never used annual leave, I'd have over 1500 hours of it - and if I quit at that point, they'd owe me tens of thousands of dollars -not a good situation for their budget.

We have a guy who just got medical retirement, but had a crap ton of leave racked up. Technically he has to take it all, and he won't be retired for something like six months.

You're referring to sick leave. If it was a non-medical retirement, they wouldn't make him (nor would they allow him) to use it first. This is one of the major problems with the FERS system - people get no compensation (either money or time served) for their sick leave, so naturally they burn through it as they approach retirement. This leads to people with 20+ years of service calling in sick on a weekly basis just to use it all before quitting.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 77: Arcade Games of the Reagan 80s

I was supposed to meet with a guy about getting an apartment in Arlington VA... until he found a roommate... I was hoping I could end this whole apartment thing by now... its hard finding a roommate when you're way outside of the area.... especially when juggling 3 or 4 other things. I'm not angry with the guy, I just want to be settled and comfortable that things will go alright and I don't have to worry about all these little things.

I had to figure today wasn't going to go well when i had to take 20 minutes to find parking on campus during the summer.

Just crash at Ralph's place!
I agree, it would give us all a chance to find out if Ralph truly sleeps, or just waits for somebody to post again. ;)

Oh... well if it's this weekend, I'll check with him tonight and get back to you.

As for the NWLB, it's full of paperwork and red tape. We read through the packet together; it's crazy, but will hopefully be worth it.
Yeah, I'm going to try to get one of those tomorrow after I go donate blood. Have that sticker on me and maybe they'll take pity on me perhaps. I doubt it though, probably about as soulless as the people who work at the DMV. :(

I just booked my flight, hotel and rental car for my first trip of many in the near future. I'll be in southern Indiana for 10 days, starting on July 22nd. What is there to do in southern Indiana on a weekend? I'm thinking of either going to Louisville for a day or possibly going to a baseball game in Cincinnati if the Reds are in town.
South Indiana?? I would have to say Cow-tipping. ;)
So, who is going? I have hockey Thursday and am playing in a softball game Friday....but as of right now I'm fairly certain I could make it there Saturday. I suppose I could show up after 8 pm Friday night too...but at that point, it's probably not worth it.

I started my day off my slamming a drawer shut on my thumb. :o
I'm diffidently up for Saturday, watch some of the Highland games stuff. Not sure about Friday night though. It all sounds like fun, just that I would want somebody to go with.

Don't forget that Gonzo is in Alaska. :)

Hopefully securing a nice gift for me while he's vacationing. :D

As for vac, I still have 10 days to schedule (used/scheduled 10 already), and my company does not allow any carryover. Of course, since the only "vacations" I go on are the 1-2 extended road trips during hockey season, I usually just do the "I don't feel like working this Friday" or "hm, no paid holidays for the next 2 months, so I'll take a day or two off here and there" requests.

To make matters worse (or better, depending on how you look at it) I also have 5 sick days a year that are considered separate from vacation days.

In case anyone is interested, I'll be in Vegas the week of 8/17. :)

Sure, I'm interested. I hadn't planned on it, but I can go to Vegas for a week... :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 77: Arcade Games of the Reagan 80s

Yes, it was pretty nice up that way today.

Pretty good day yesterday overall, we've got a guy onboard who brought a box FULL of expired flares that just needed to be used up, made for some fun times this afternoon just east of Manitou Island.

Then last evening he gave a 1 hour course for Red Cross CPR/AED and first aid certification, so I have both of those for free.

But yes, 42 degrees on July 7th at high noon wasn't something I thought was pleasant.

Should be down to St. Clair around 10 tonight. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

when do you head up Lake Superior towards Duluth?? check your rep.

Happy Birthday ctf! Wait a minute, isn't Les supposed to be the birthday coordinator? How'd this get missed?

I think she's at camp in Maine, nice weather for it:p

Hi Honeys! I'm hoooooome:D

I was not across the pond:( but at one in Maine:D . Came down yesterday to work and went right back up. I can't imagine commuting 2 hrs every day like some people do.

I saw this weird yellow object for a few days on and off and needed (wait for it......) sunscreen one day. Spent time with the family which was mostly a nice thing except the arsehole cousin who enjoys belittling his wife in front of everyone (she had a stroke while pregnant with their youngest child and has some deficit which makes his behavior even more abhorent). Took some amazing pictures of loons. Caught one in the act of eating a HUGE bass. Can't imagine how it ever was swallowed! I love my camera!

It appears I missed a few birthdays while I was gone. :o Happy Birthday to ctf and anyone else I missed.

Welcome back! Ed McMahon, Billy Mays, and Steve McNair died...

Speaking of vacation, I'm planning on taking one in October, around the time of the Grand Rapids Marathon. Figured I can take 2 days for the marathon itself, then another 5 to head west.

Oh, and as for the marathon, another goal is to eat something right out of Man vs. Food right after I'm done. Donors (see link below) get to help decide what I eat...

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 77: Arcade Games of the Reagan 80s

That explains why she isn't answering my email :p

What we need is a Lodge schedule so we know when people are in or not. Les is across the pond, wT is going to China and JF and gmann have more vacation time than Bernie...

Check your mail!:D
