Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #190: Springing Forward

Lutherans have god parents? I thought that was just one of those goofy catholic things.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #190: Springing Forward

I just figured Sat night got to you. ;)

And yeah, seeing parents age is tough. And yay Ladyboss! She made it so I get this Friday off, so I can watch the regionals! We hockey fans stick together. ;)
It's been kinda rough with mom dealing with her hip and all this year. She's been doing some PT for it lately and is getting better, just has to about pull teeth with the insurance company just to get the sessions for PT.

Family can sometimes be royal jerks.
I read this as you were ready to start a family. Did a double take, freaked out, read again and realized I hadn't missed something.
Twitch out there making little Twitches?? God help us all!!!

Mostly for sponsorship at the baptism ceremony. I believe it confers no legal obligation, though if a probate court gets involved and absent any other will and testament they decide custody goes to me...yikes. (Can they? IANAL.)

Had this talk with my parents last year. It wasn't comfortable, obviously. Who wants to talk about that stuff? I'm the executor (or whatever the term is). Our family is very traditional, the responsibility always fell to the eldest. Thankfully, my brother and I more than get along, and no bad apples in the family when it comes to this kind of stuff. Chances are, when it comes to the house and all that, he knows more about it than I do, and we'll work together, although it'll be my name on any documents, if my understanding is correct. The inheritance/money stuff is really clear cut.

As for the house, that's the only question mark, and unless something odd happens, we're going to sell it off. He has his house, and I don't want a house. While we'd both miss it (it was our childhood home), we have our own homes now, you know?

Edit: as for health stuff, my parents want to let nature take its course. If they can be saved, sure, but no veggie status.

Same. My sister is the executor. House they're in will be sold. Yadda yadda I don't want to talk about it anymore.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #190: Springing Forward

Good morning Lodge. Catching up on some discussions here...

'ewe - that sucks. It amazes me how siblings act like that. I've been thinking about elderly care a little more recently. My dad will be 83 next month and my mom is 82. By all accounts, they're pretty active and independent. They live on their own, they do stuff. But they're getting up there. My dad is a hypochondriac and while none of us disagree that he has aches and pains and whatever, he makes it way more than it is most of the time. I feel bad that he's so miserable. Regardless, they're both healthy. Or healthy-ish. Starting to get a bit forgetful, but, you know, they're in their 80s. Not necessarily dementia setting in. I mean, I'm getting forgetful. I think it's because neither of them work any more. And the fact that they both get annoyed at themselves for being forgetful, I feel that means they're not necessarily dealing with dementia or Alzheimer's because they're totally aware of it. Probably wrong about that, but I feel it's a good sign that it's just that they ask the same question and then say "Oh duh, I forgot" and not that they're leaving the stove on or forgetting where they are. Before they sold the house three years ago, they both had little part time jobs that got them both out of the house and kept their minds active. They've both been pretty upfront with their plans. They have a will. They've already purchased their burial plots. I'd like to think my brothers and I will all be on the same page should things take a turn for the worse in the future. And now I'm sad just thinking about this.

WRT to godparents - I have three godchildren. In the Greek church, godparents are a big deal. There is no legal stuff around it. I take a lot of pride in being a godparent. I also have a godmother, who is my aunt. She has been a big part of my life, we're pretty close.

Anything else? Don't want to scroll back. Oh, much like a few weeks ago, I'm trying to spread rep around so I can make this ******* BU poster red. I have no idea who keeps turning him green, though maybe this time it could be all the Michigan State posters because he posted how Anastos was going to resign. And he did. I hate that he has info like that and wish I could find who is giving him this info to see if they knew he was breaking a confidence and posting on a public message board. Feel free to go neg rep him. I spread around too much rep in the last 24 hours so I can't do that any more to flip him back to red.

Lutheran here. My Godmother is a big deal and lil's Godmother is a big deal to him too. I think it depends on the culture of your family/particular church. bro les was very insulted (I think he probably stil is) that he and sil les weren't Godparents but he was at the very best agnostic and she is Catholic. In the Baptism rite you make a vow to raise the child in the way of God and the church. I believe you should keep your word if you swear something and I didn'twant to put him in a position to break his word or feel uncomfortable if he didn't

Good Morning Lodge!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #190: Springing Forward

I dunno. I'm a godparent to melmac's kids. Yeah, if that doesn't scare you, dunno what will. ;)

I'm wagering that neither of you really thought through the possible ramifications of that decision. :p

As to the family disputes over stuff, even if it's spelled out and the paperwork is there, things can turn weird very quick when it comes to inheritance issues. We took steps to protect my mother financially when she was alive, and that's led to complications that I'm still dealing with some 3.5 years after her passing. Also, if there's one sibling that's on the jealous side or two of them aren't getting along very well, it gets messy. Even when siblings get along normally, someone says something wrong (either unable to articulate the idea or just plain bad) in a moment of grief and sets off the other, leading to further complications. I had to send out word from my mom about certain things. It was not something I wanted to discuss as I thought it was tacky, but she made me give her my word, and so I did it. Fury was my reward from at least one brother.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #190: Springing Forward

Good afternoon, Lodge.
Quiet day here after a little excitement this morning. Our dishwasher's drying cycle isn't working, so t-hubs emailed our apartment complex director to let them know. I figure they will call/email to let us know when they're coming by. I slept in this morning until 9am (last day of vacation) and when I woke up and went to get a cup of coffee, the repair guy is standing in the kitchen. Thank goodness I actually had clothes on as I usually get coffee while the shower is heating! :o :o :o He got treated to no bra, hair standing straight up, and a squeak. As it turns out, the heating coil isn't working, so they're replacing it next week. But what a shock to start the day.

Monthly beer dinner is tonight. It's a brewery that has already done a dinner (Wachusett). Was hoping for a new brewery this month, the restaurant owner is in talks with Allagash and Ommegang distributors/reps, but instead we got a repeat this month. Hoping that they don't schedule one of those (or Kona) for May as we'll be away. Hard to be too upset as they have a different chef than when they did the last beer dinner and this guy is great. For the locals, it's at the Stonehedge Inn/NoLo Bistro. 5 courses/5 Beers for 65$ (3 passed apps, 3 course seated meal, dessert). Different brewery (usually) every month. Rep from the brewery comes and talks about the beers/brewery during dinner. Previous breweries -- Von Trapp (had the grandson of the actual Von Trapps), Guinness, Weihnstephaner, Wachusett, Cape Ann, Cisco, Firestone/Walker, etc.

Don't feel like doing much today (or venturing out in the wind), but had a total pile-day yesterday.

Easier to be p1ssed with someone than deal with the feelings of sadness/grief. Not logical but unfortunately predictable :(

Your complex's repair/maintenance folks can walk right into your apartment??? Is that safe?
