Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #189: The Winter of our Discontent.

Hot water heater has hit the 10-year mark. Mulling spending my tax return on a replacement.

Still producing satisfactory water temperatures, but I don't want to wake up to three inches of lukewarm water in my basement. Bite the bullet now, or run it until it dies? Do these things fail catastrophically fairly often?

When a water heater fails, you have 30-50 gallons of water streaming onto you floor from the tank alone. Then, should it fail while you're not at home, you have countless gallons of new water trying to fill up the tank and in turn ending up on your floor - hoping it's a concrete floor with a drain. If you've been doing the annual/semi-annual purge of the tank, then you might have another few years from it. If you've not, then I would give it serious consideration now.

Funny you should post this as I've been having this discussion with myself as well. My hot water heater is a really good one. The previous owners of my condo had it installed shortly before they sold it. I've been there 11 1/2 years so even though I have no issues with it, I'd rather be proactive than reactive. However, in order to replace it, I need to have my washer and dryer moved. And I've been wanting to replace those anyways so I could so all in one day. But who has the time?? I need to find someone to call to do that and I hate doing that.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #189: The Winter of our Discontent.

3 hot water heater failures- first 2 came with in months of buying the house (not lucky, big mess!!) and the last was extremely lucky to be home when it happened. Still took the whole part of my day to lean up even tho we caught it early enough it didn't get to the finished part of the basement. - if you have the $$ do it- that and the new ones are much more efficient.

Good Morning Lodge!

Just saw your head coach was relieved of his duties, Ralph.

Mine is probably 20 years old. And not on the lowest floor of the house. Been thinking of a new one soon.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #189: The Winter of our Discontent.

Picked up a new ride over the weekend, finally. My '97 TL died in Jan & luckily my parents winter in SoCal so I could mooch their car fora few weeks while I shopped. :) picked up a '14 TLX with only 16k on it. Vroom Vroom dam that thing is a joy to drive.

Wanna race :D

:)
I drove a '12 MDX. That is a dam fine vehicle. We decided to postpone getting the MDX until next purchase so we could afford to get a new(er) one. We already have the Odyssey so it doesn't make sense to get another large vehicle at this time, especially since more and more of our trips are just da boss and me.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #189: The Winter of our Discontent.

You do realize my MDX has a faster 0-60 than your car, right?

I'd put my MDX up against the both of you in any race you want.

And Dillo's Bimmer corners better. I guess it all depends on what kind of race. :)

I wouldn't race anyways. I have a clean record, and prefer to keep it that way.

Edit: just looked it up. MDX is 6 seconds. Camaros from 2015-2016 range from 4-5 seconds.

Lol. Your Camaro is the V6, not the SS or race models. Your camaro is 5.4 seconds.compared to the MDX's 5.9. I'd still beat you off the line and take you there.

That is why I mentioned the range. So, 5.4 < 5.9. You said so yourself. :p

And frankly, on those UP roads with all the curves and such, I bet Dillo would take us both, say in a Houghton to Eagle River run. Long enough to make up some time using each of our car's strengths, windy enough so it's not pure straightaway speed; a good mix of everything.
