Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #188: Hockey Is The Real Politics

You've become an adult. Slight difference. Welcome.

Hey kids. Nice day here in 617-ville before we get the freezing cold affecting you folks in the Midwest. My brother in California takes the red eye home tonight. I texted him to make sure he has layers because when he lands at 5:30am-ish, he has to wait outside to take Logan Express to Woburn. It'll be a bit chilly for him.

Happy Birthday bigblue_dl!!

Congrats Patman!

Good Morning Lodge!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #188: Hockey Is The Real Politics

Having an apt is enough for me.

It's rather cold out, as has been mentioned. Figure we were going to pay for it for the wonderfully warm November we had. The temp isn't THAT bad, but that wind sucks.

Figures that the coldest day this weekend (and previous night) are the times I have to venture out. Blech.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #188: Hockey Is The Real Politics

We're going below zero a couple times in the next few days here. Plus rain/snow/sleet mix on Saturday with temps in the mid-30's. Yay.

The forecasts are all over the board. For Monday, the Weather Channel calls for 1/-7 for a high/low, while National Weather Service calls for 12/3.

Forecast high for Denver Friday morning: 53.
Forecast low for Denver Friday night: -2.

Wrap your head around that one.

I've lived in MN my whole life. My head has been wrapped around stuff like that forever. ;)

Yeah, just recently we called that "last week."

And Sunday's predicted high has been changed. It's now -8.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #188: Hockey Is The Real Politics

I remember a couple years ago, it was Feb IIRC, MN had 30+ consecutive days of not hitting above freezing, and there was a 50 degree swing (real temp) in there. Yep.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #188: Hockey Is The Real Politics

I have personally witnessed sunny and 78 immediately followed the next day by 24 inches of snow that closed the airport.

Denver Weather: We Have No Idea What We're Doing.

Yep, had a surgery and was recovering in NY back home, we had a similar stretch. I think the average temperature for the month was something in the single digits.

The winter of 2000-2001 we set records for consecutive days below 30 and below 40. I only remember that because the cold snap hit something like 3 days after I bought my brand new car on December 8 and I was pi--ed because I couldn't wash off the road salt for over a month.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you park outside, and it stays below freezing, road salt/ice melter won't really ruin your vehicle.....

When it gets above freezing, yeah, need to wash it ASAP.....could be urban legend.....

The salts used to clear the roads aren't bound by the magic 32F the way pure water is. We add the salt to the roads to lower the temps at which the chemical reaction and melting takes place. Steel isn't bound by 32F either because it froze solid at a much, much higher temp than that. Oxidization was taking place.

Good Morning, MEUSA! :)

Good Morning to the rest of tLodge! :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #188: Hockey Is The Real Politics

Good Morning, Lodge!

Days like this make me glad that I have a car starter. Downside, I have to drive to work and then take the company van which has been sitting outside this entire time back to Bloomington. Fun part is going to try to start the company van.
