Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #187: Lazy End Days Of Summer

It's specifically the club itself. Not exactly known for country clientele. ;)

Meh. Most clubs host all kinds of music, unless they're trying for a specific niche. First Ave has had so many different types of shows over the years that I wouldn't (didn't) think twice about a country act showing up there - even though they're marketed as more of a southern rock band than a country band.

I'm familiar with BSmoke, and I agree. However, the rep that First Ave has...not exactly a country place.

Maybe so, but the crowd that shows up is all that matters.

Hey, wanna go to the downtown area of a major city, where there is often some commotion due to the uh, urbanites? And the club is rather dingy and dank, and probably unsanitary?

;)

I just walked around the venue the other day with my wife and kid and lingered looking for the stars of the acts that I saw back in the day.

The people that were lined up were college aged kids going to see whatever band plays that "Take me to your best friend's house" song.

I would have ZERO reservations about going to a show there and wish I lived close enough that I could again.

So do you feel that BBDL is scared or too rural or just too good for the place?

Not rural, but we (as in both of us) have been to that area numerous times. Have heard tasers, gunshots, etc. Back in the day, First Ave was a regular hangout of mine. Loved the house music and cheap concerts. I don't feel that's his scene, no matter who's playing. He'd rather see them in Mankato or Duluth or something. Just my thoughts.

I was semi-joking with that last line.

There was definitely a seedy element around, but there are so many restaurants, bars and f course the baseball stadium and Target Center.

Can't imagine it's all that unsafe if you keep your wits.

Of course, I'm not a local, so what do I know. Wasn't worried though.

He should bring dx along. :)

Good Morning Lodge.

Have a work trip to San Jose next week. One of the sites is about 4 blocks from the SAP center where the Sharks play. They have a game with Calgary Thursday night. I, unfortunately have to give a class at noon Friday and Friday AM flights don't get me back in time. Dang it, I could have made it work to go to a new NHL venue if not for that class.

I'd like to, but don't have plans to go yet. If I don't have anything going on, I'm hoping to make it there. And Brent is high, there is nothing wrong with anyone going to First Ave to see a band that they like. Its not like the people going to Blackberry Smoke are going to be the same people that go to other concerts there, and even if they are, who cares?

Seriously? Have I had a problem in downtown Minneapolis before? I've worn my hat and boots and wranglers downtown many times and never had a problem. Plus, that is nothing like the people that go to Blackberry Smoke. The Blackberry Smoke crowd is much more of a biker, southern rock, ZZ Top and Skynyrd crowd. That is the crowd that will be at the concert. There will be no problems whatsoever.
