Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #183: The Final Approach To Off-Season

Good Morning, MEUSA! :)

Good Morning to the rest of tLodge! :)

I completely understand. When I first rode Wild Thing (the first "real" coaster that Valleyfair had, way back in the day?), that was the first time I dropped the F-bomb in front of the parents. Never rode that sum-beech again. White-knuckled the whole ride.

Brenthoven is not fond of those rides, to say the least. :o

Good morning Lodge.

Do you ride elevators? :D

For me? I have jumped out of airplanes and I have always done as many things as possible to get the adrenaline pumping as possible. Little gII has it as well.

The weird thing is, I'm okay with the Corkscrew and Enterprise (the latter one of my favorites). Heights is a thing with me, sure, but those two, can't explain why I actually like them.
Get me up in something like the IDS, etc? I am as far away from the windows as possible.

I'm the same with heights - the kind you can picture yourself falling down from (bridges, balconies, rooftops, high ladders, etc.). Airplanes are different, I've done two jumps, one static line and one free fall (with an instructor strapped on my back), but the difference was that I had a parachute on.
I read somewhere that all behavioral phobias are a manifestation of an irrational urge to do the thing one fears. I can totally see that. Every time I look over a balcony I can't help but picture what would happen if I fell off.
My wife has no such fear of heights, hanging over a hotel balcony just to freak me out. I can't even look when she does that!

And good morning, Lodge! Just 84.4 hours until the first regional starts (NoDak-NE).

I'm not even at work and I can tell it's going to be a Tuesday.

MN peeps - what's your long range forecast look like?

Good Morning Lodge!

When I was a kid one of the little carnvals had a roller coaster come off the tracks with some very bad outcome. mum les told us what happened in gory detail giving me a lovely fear of roller coasters. My step-mum LOVES roller coasters with a passion. Went on them with her so I got to the point I can do it. enclosed stull- Disney like thunder mountain stuff- I am fine. Not so much on the way up, crazy wood rattling type. If the line is short and I don't wait to long I enjoy it. If I have too much time to think- not so much

We took the kiddos to Disney World and my oldest daughter wanted to ride the Mt. Everest roller coaster - but not by herself. I confess that my fears were greater than my desire to please my child! We rode the smaller one instead.

**** Straight Homie!!! Maverick, Mean Streak, Millennium Force, Magnum, Raptor, Top Thrill Dragster, Gatekeeper, and Rougarou which is just Mantis with a redone seating arrangement that's not as hard on the junk.
Not gonna lie, half of those sound like they're more fit for the porn industry than rollercoaster names.

I usually do pretty well on rollercoasters, though there was one time when I got off a coaster and had that uneasy feeling that passed after a few moments. The odd part was that the feeling didn't hit me until we were on those little hills at the end of the ride, where there are three 20ft hills in quick succession. Until then, I'd been all hunky dunky.

Skydiving sounds like a blast, but none of my local friends ever want to do it. One won't do it because he's tighter than a virgin's a** when it comes to his grip on cash, and the others don't want to risk it with kids at home, which I can respect. Sort of.

Back in college, one of my buddies got me into rock climbing. When I was at SCSU, we only had a bouldering wall, which is just a 10ft wall that's more for horizontal movement. Since then, SCSU partnered with St. John's U to get a proper climbing wall, which I think is actually on SJU's campus. For spring break my senior year, took a rock climbing trip down to NE Alabama (all the stereotypes are true), and there's a picture of me at the top of a cliff, dangling there on the rope as I'd just finished the climb and the guy belaying me held me in place while another buddy snapped a photo. At the top of the cliff, I could see across a wide swath of foothills, stretching into Georgia. Beautiful land, crazy people. Great climbing spot - it's all sandstone.

Crowds were crazy. Between spring break and Easter we picked a great time to hit the parks.

Don't forget to go to guest services (or whatever they call it) at the Disney parks and get the help that they'll give you.

It makes things a lot easier.

Watch out for fat southerners on their scooters too.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #183: The Final Approach To Off-Season

Are the boys super excited? We're headed to Disney/Universal as part of our trip to FLA for the Frozen Four and I'm already jittery and super excited and it's still 3 weeks away.
I'm so excited about Universal. I haven't been since 2002. We were planning to go Sunday, but now I'm considering getting the 2 day pass and going both Friday and Sunday.

Burgers, Brew, and Que just featured a chicken and waffle dish with bacon butter that looked pretty fantastic in a restaurant in Cincy.
I Googled it, Incline Public House. I love chicken and waffles, but these are spicy, so I probably can't have them. :( stupid allergies. I'm going to see if I can convince the group to go to Montgomery Inn for a nice meal Saturday.

As far as the roller coaster conversation, Cedar Point is amazing. I haven't been there in awhile, and am fearful that at my current size I wouldn't fit in many of the coasters, they were an uncomfortable fit 30 pounds ago. I'm worried about that too at Universal, but hopefully we'll still have fun.

I still remember my first coaster. The Rebel Yell at King's Dominion. I was probably just tall enough to ride (maybe 8 years old). My 12 year old brother was too scared. I sat next to my mom and it was terrifying. Single lap bar, my mom was 200+ lbs, and I was at the very bottom of the height/weight chart for my age. I thought I was going to fly out of that thing. I held onto that lap bar for dear life.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #183: The Final Approach To Off-Season

Last one I rode I was hanging on to the bar for dear life. I am no longer a small person (not overly large but certainly not lightweight!) but I was flying all over the place, airborne, thought I was going to fly right out from under the bar. Scary stuff.

Does anyone know the best way to get a video feed of the ESPNU games? I'm looking at ESPN Player, but am hesitating to sign up & pay before I know that there's no free access somewhere else online.

If your family has ESPNU back in the states, you might be able to stream the game for free using the ESPN app by logging into the app by telling them your cable provider, and then logging into the app using your cable company's login information. So you'll have to had already signed up for your cable company's online account administration, which ESPN then checks to see if you're subscribed to the channel.

The caveat to this is I don't have cable TV anymore, dropped it a year ago now, so I don't know if that process holds true these days.

Where are y'all staying in Tampa? Thinking of making this thing happen.

Also, ask around to friends and fam. They might give you access to their acct. I had someone do that for me in the past.
