Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

Morning.

Why is anyone saving nude pics of themselves on Internet connected devices?

Put them on a flash drive or something and lock it up. Leaving it on your phone is asking for trouble!
(assuming you're talking about famous actresses getting naked pics stolen)
You're assuming they don't want them leaked/stolen. They may act like they're offended, but just think of how much more publicity they get when this happens. They're in the news, and they get their brand out there more. I doubt they care that much if they have some naked pictures out there, their career is more important.

I don't think J-Law or Kelly Cuoco are hurting for brand-exposure. ;) There was a good article on the hacker(s) that released the pics, I should have saved the link.

The more Jennifer Lawrence exposure the better I say! :D

I have this protective sweet girl next door attitude towards her so I can't get into that. She seems normal but so goes the hollyweird game.

Edit: signs seem to indicate passwords were stolen the old fashioned way... Social engineering... they sent emails saying there's a problem w the account and they need the pwd to fix it, etc, etc, etc

----

Moving pains continue. Comcrud is supposed to show up to add a metal piece to the cable btwn 1 and 3. Appointment at 430 so they'll show around 5 is my figuring.

Still unsure where to put all my things. Progress is progress, I suppose.

But doesn't that make it harder to txt them to people?!?!?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

I tweeted this, and asked the wife this yesterday:

If Apple (or Google or Microsoft, etc) owns servers that host a "cloud", they own the "cloud", right? And if they have mobile devices that automatically upload pictures to their servers, whether the people know about it or not, I would assume that they have some kind of possession of those files. If thousand, if not millions of teenaged minors are taking naked pics, and sexting that are getting uploaded to the cloud, isn't Apple/Google/Microsoft in possession of millions of files of child porn?

edit: wife agreed with me that they are

I would guess that there is some clause in there that clears their name. Sort of like if one were looking for child porn on google ("google gave me access to child porn, it's their fault!")

There would have to be some sort of clause stating that while they are in possession of the files they've not actually examined the contents of those files and therefore safe from prosecution. Of course, since I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, I'm probably wrong.

It's an interesting question itself because lawyers have gotten in trouble for possession of types of contraband they're holding for legal reasons. For instance, the retained hard drive containing such images.

I forget some of the wrinkles involved but there are some catch-22 situations out there

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

Shouldn't it matter that the company definitely knows that the files exist on there, even if they don't open up the files? I would think if I owned a house, rented it out to a guy into kiddie porn, knew about it, and knew he had hundreds of illegal pictures stashed in a house I owned, I would be somewhat culpable...

edit: Maybe a better example would be: If I have a computer, and my roommate uses to store kiddie porn. I know that it is there, but have never opened a file, I would still be in deep **** if the authorities found out. Its about possession, not the act of looking at or downloading.

Also, I don't see how an agreement between the user of the cloud/device and the company has anything to do with the government determining if the company has possession.

I'm not trying to cause any issues here, I just thought it was a very interesting situation, and was wondering what others thoughts were.

Afternoon Lodge.

So I saw the surgeon on Wednesday. I have not been happy with my recovery progress and the amount of swelling/stiffness (of my ANKLE dammit!). The surgeon disagrees. He sees people at my time from surgery, 12-13 weeks, often still with a crutch or two and almost all with a cane while I walked in empty handed and minimal limp. I guess not many of his patients go to the State Fair 12 weeks post surgery.

Still wish the recovery was faster. Hate it that I limp quite a bit when I stand up after sitting for an hour. Surgeon prescribed another 6-8 weeks of PT twice week. And then I see the surgeon in 3 months.

I think that the case may be different in that with the roommate you KNOW that he's doing the act on a piece of hardware you access daily for personal use. With these cloud customers you know somebody's taking pictures of people but you don't know the subjects' ages or which customers are actually doing it so at that point you'd be held guilty due to statistical calculations, and it's not a piece of hardware you'd access daily for your own purpose. Customer data servers are going to be reviewed for physically bad data sectors and performance issues, not data content.
