Good Afternoon, Lodge!
When one car goes into the shop, the other shortly follows suite. Mr's car was in for a basic oil change and tire rotation. Mine is in as the rear break pad is metal on metal and needs a new rotor. At least I do not have to pay for the pads as they are under warranty.
On the plus side, going to Target Field to night for the Paul McCartney show. It should be fun.

Hung with the bro tonight. It's hilarious seeing him adjust to suburban life. There's a city park bordering his property (big treeline, though, so he has his privacy). There is a walking path along that border. He says every time someone walks by, he perks up wondering "what the heck they're doing around here?" until he remembers he doesn't live in BFE anymore.
Pretty jealous of his house. Beautiful 3-season porch (and I almost have him convinced to install a tv out there; he's reallllllly close to doing it), and a big deck above that. 3BR, 3BA, ha-yooooge place. He's even talking about extending the garage by 20' in length and building another basement below that for his snowmobiles/boat/etc.

Went to the Fulton taproom for some yummy beers, and they had the Anchor Fish & Chips food truck there. Didn't hurt that the place is shouting distance from Target Field, so you could hear Sir Paul from the patio. Eventually we wanted to hear him even better, so we bought a growler of their Randonneur, which is a summer saison, and went to the rail platform (has a big open area where you can just chill outdoors) and drank that as the show continued. Very nice relaxing Saturday evening.

Good morning Lodge. Another kind of gray day today. Heading to tax free New Hampshire with my folks later this morning to look at new TVs for their new apartment. Sure, there's a tax-free weekend in two weeks but it's the weekend they're moving.
Need to do some serious food shopping this morning and I'm not really sure what I'm going to get as there is only one store I can now go to since all that Market Basket drama is still going on. les, where have you been shopping? I actually went to my regular Market Basket yesterday afternoon to see if they had any trash compactor bags left. I felt like a traitor going in there but they're the only place around that sells them. I figured that since it's a non-perishable item and not many people have a trash compactor, I might be in luck. I was. They had many, so I bought 10 boxes.

It's pretty fascinating in that employees and customers are so loyal and devoted to the CEO that was ousted. This guy is a billionaire, yet people are standing behind him. It's disappointing because I don't think this boycott is going to work and the new regime is going to sell and the prices are going to go up. I hope their item selection doesn't change that much as they had so many different items. And lots and lots of them. Their produce section was enormous. They would sell these bags of mini sweet peppers that I would use for stuffed peppers. I don't know where I will find them. I went to another supermarket close by and their produce selection was limited. The co-CEOs announced that if employees don't go back to work tomorrow they're going to start posting jobs. No idea how it's all going to be resolved.
And of course there's a college hockey connection......the evil cousin played at University of Maine in the 70s. And the good cousin's nephew played at Brown a few years back. When Brown played at BU a few years ago, the whole family came. Nephew's mom is good cousin's sister. Good cousin's mom and my sister-in-law's mom are first cousins. Good cousin's mom and dad were at my brother's wedding. They had such a good time, good cousin's mom sent my parents a thank you note and good cousin's dad stuffed a check for $1000 in my brother's pocket at the wedding after they had already given them a beautiful gift.

Honestly, it is a fascinating story about the workers'/customers' support and all the threats and such. I couldn't really see that happening here, at least to that degree.

I have no idea what the back story is to Market Basket but I have a hard time supporting a billionaire not matter what the cause especially if finances are involved. If the workers don't like it then they can start their own store and make all the decisions they want. Fire 'em all and start over.

Then maybe you should read up on the story, gmann. This guy treats his workers really well, offering profit sharing, great benefits and he genuinely cares for their well being, paying for surgeries, etc. He also found a way to become a billionaire by offering product at very low prices, and filling his stores with employees who treat customers properly and stay with the company for 30-40 years. His evil cousin is greedy, wants to take away some of the benefits and sell the company to make even more moneys he has been well-compensated as a shareholder and family member, there's just a lot of bad blood between the cousins.

Based on your post he sounds like a noble person who tends to make decisions based on "not just the bottom line". I consider the employer I work for to be similar. The company offers a 401k match more than double the national average. They also offer a full pension, profit sharing and my health benefits are the Cadillac of plans with minimal cash from my pocket. When little g was born I missed nearly 2 months or work. My employer paid me and I didn't have to exhaust any PTO or use a leave and I was encouraged to take as much time as I needed and that my job was never in jeopardy. Furthermore, last year the company gave nearly 60 million dollars to local non profits (which is most of the profit of the company).
I have been involved in a project that has been recently publicly announced and that decision will impact 500 employees. Those employees consist of awesome hard working people. The process of making decisions from mgmt took all options seriously. If the employees of the company decide they don't like the decision the company made and they decide to walk it's a free country they can do what they want .............those employees will ultimately have to live with the decisions they or mgmt makes. I hope in your case those employees get what they want.........I know my situation isn't exactly like the one you mention but I know what it's like to make tough decisions that could negatively impact a person or family in many different ways. It's very difficult but in most cases nessecary. Steps off soap box........

That's the one good thing about my company. They have a grandfathered-in retirement plan that no employers can offer nowadays. I've been getting about 20% of my gross income just given to an account for the last 6-7 years (you still get a good % from year one, increases every year, and when you're fully vested, that's the big jump). Even in that down economy a couple years ago, I got 18%.

If you dig even a little bit into google search, you can find flow charts/etc on the whole thing. I can understand the workers' viewpoints/actions.
