Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

Howdy Lodge. Greetings from Irving, TX. Had an employee event here with Katie Uhlaender. She's a skeleton athlete. Not sure if you watched that competition in Sochi. She missed the podium by .04 seconds. Heartbreaking! She is such a cool person. Of all the non medalists, she was the one I felt most bad for.

Weather is really nice here today. I hear it was snowing back home. les, mookie....is it still snowing? It's nothing that would affect my flight is it?

Skeleton.. what an event.. I don't think I could go head first down ice at that speed.

Flurries, not sticking. No worries

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

Speaking of flurries, we were supposed to get 1-3" last night and ended up with nearly 10" on the ground.

WE got a dusting on the ground in Farmtown. I still did some shoveling though, because I had to clear a drift leading to my front door so the UPS man won't refuse to deliver.

....and the weekend has started. :)
Hockey tourney all day tomorrow and most of the day Friday.
Will start tomorrow with Breakfast at the New Louisiana Cafe, love that place.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

I found out yesterday that I have distant relatives in South Dakota. That makes North Dakota the only state not on my family tree. :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

people who use the "get an education" argument when talking about jobs and wages need to "get an education".

/annoyed
Speaking of, I'm going to a job fair tomorrow at one of the community colleges here. It's been close to 8 years after my degree; here's hoping I can finally get out of retail.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

Got a response from Board about the SpamalotBots. They are talking about a solution, but they don't know what that will be yet.

JF: too funny about the text. A couple people have texted me their number, but no name attached. Yeah that helps!:D I don't know any numbers off the top of my head except my own number and my parents' home number (because it's been the same number for 36 years).

Getting antsy for my days off later this month. I wish they'd get here sooner.

That's a different issue than the one that annoyed me. :)

People (i use the term loosely when referencing the internet) were commenting on low wage workers for a hospital system here striking for better wages/unionization, etc. All the comments were basically, if they don't like $11/hr they should go get an education and some marketable skills. So many things wrong with that attitude.

The two most obvious things:
A) So educated people don't have low paying jobs and want better wages/work conditions?
B) to hijack part of a quote, if everyone of working age had a college degree and marketable skills, we would still need pizza makers and janitors. What then?

Well yeah, all the options need to be vetted for fitness of purpose. The ultimate solution needs to be the one that adds the most value to Board. That will take several meetings and votes. ;)

Just throw up a farking CAPTCHA and call it a day.

That's what I suggested.

As for the education thing...I consider myself a well-educated person, smarter than average, but I love blue-collar work. I could easily be an accountant or some other business/number related person in the white-collar world, but I'd be miserable. Sometimes you follow what you love, or maybe sometimes you just are just working that "crappy job" until you can get to where you want to be.

I think that all the time but those 'educated' people who say that frequently are educated but missed the part about critically thinking. All the lazy people will fill those jobs

They have the captcha thing and it is getting by it.
