Afternoon.

One of the wedding rings has been purchased and arrives tomorrow. Still need to find mine.

Also, if you're in the market for that type of stuff I recommend Blue Nile. My family has had great service and quality with them. Generally a better price than stores as well.

Ummm, yeah, definitely going to stick to the local jewelery store, not a chain, not a website, not a superstore of any kind. The kind of store run by a guy that has done it all his life. Some things shouldn't be purchased online or at superstores.

We ordered HN's ring online from a shop in Ireland. He wanted something Celtic and they had a style he liked. My rings were crafted at a family run shop in Royal Oak. I had my grandmother's wedding set reset to something more to my liking. No one else will have exactly the same set I do.

I was going to use a local store but it was recommended to me back when I was engagement ring hunting by my sister.

Talked with a diamond expert on the phone and was able to hand pick the ring, setting, and gem.

Was nice seeing all of the gems in the Ctw range I wanted so I could compare price, clarity, etc. and get the best one.

Eta: it also appraised (for insurance) at nearly $1000 more than I paid for it. So that was nice.

So with all this talk of heart issues, probably shouldnt mention I ran my 1st half marathon Sunday in 2 hours 3 minutes 1 sec. If someone wouldve told me 18 months ago when I weighed 125lbs due to Crohns Disease that I would run a half, I wouldve called them an idiot

Congrats! Great job!

Cawk ring is something that should not be done over the innernet either. Local fitting is best by a professional ;)

Good Morning Lodge.

Sorry to hear about all the health problems for relatives here. :( Take care of yourselves everyone. Be like Ralph and go ride your bike - only not in the middle of the night!

It may be good for the heart, but I am getting all sorts of aches and pains.

Friendy advice. Make sure the jeweler uses a white background vs a black background when showing the diamonds.

Congrats to Bandit!

More bad news: a childhood friend of mine (known the guy and his family for 33 years or so) lost his grandpa last night. Obviously I knew the grandpa pretty well, and he was an old school stand up man's man. :(

Rings: got the Rubette's at Shane Co, but it was only a Claddagh, no stone, so knowing they had quality stuff, it came down to service. Besides a few recommendations from friends, I was treated very well there, and they went into detail about everything after I said I wasn't familiar with jewelry at all (I played dumb; I did my research on the interwebs :D ).

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

A women friend of mine sends me this in an email: "Do you ever miss a hands-on job? I do sometimes."
What I read the first time through: Do you ever miss a hand job? I do sometimes. See the difference?

That perked me up a bit, very surprising, given who sent the email.
