Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #172: Did you see your shadow?

Apparently the baby wanted to watch hockey this morning. We were awake at 4:45. Got changed, fed, now we're swinging and watching the women kick some arse.

Ahhhh, good to be back home. Cold walk over lightly snow covered sidewalks. Disabled subway train leading to overcrowded platforms making take the subway the opposite direction in order to get a seat. Why would I ever want to leave???

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #172: Did you see your shadow?

Got a bunch of wedding planning done this weekend. Cake! Done. Flowers! Done. DJ! Done.

Only kinda kept an eye on hockey. Nice to see Tech start to pick it up, yeah it was UAH, but 10 goals is 10 goals. Also laughed quite a bit at UMi vs. PedoState. :D That's high comedy right there.

Have almost all of the house fixes done, that are needed before the appraisal. Just have to finish trim a shelf in the bathroom, put a backsplash behind the washbasin, get a new smoke detector installed in the downstairs hallway, and put a piece of trim in front of the dishwasher.

You got the downstairs bathroom done?! If so, awesome!

Morning. Had a good chuckle last night: my bro finally upgraded his tv from a Sony Trinitron flat screen/tube to a 60" HD. He said he sat there watching nature channels for a couple hours simply because of the the colors. :D

Bathroom downstairs is not "done". It is temporarily done, just to get the holes in the wall fixed, and the shower tile patched to get through the appraisal. After the appraisal is over, the whole bathroom still needs to get torn out and replaced.

Ahhh, gotcha. Was gonna say, that was a lotta work done in a short amount of time!

Mornin' y'all. Everyone on the bus was extremely grumpy and tired today; everyone must have a case of the Mondays.

Test tomorrow, and a rather busy day for me considering Monday usually isn't bad. Should be on campus til about 3 pm and then head to the rink for practice at four.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #172: Did you see your shadow?

Morning, Lodj.

After having almost no practices for the last six weeks, my squirt team has 3 in the next 7 days. Just in time for the season to be over, too! What a winter. We lost two practices to the polar vortex hysteria, but we also lost two to games that were scheduled on our regular practice night. Not ideal. I'm making sure not to complain too much, because I should step up and volunteer to help with scheduling if I think they've done some stupid things, right? (You guys get to hear me vent, tho'. :p )

Oh well. Just have to remember: Stay positive, and remember it's never too late to work more on fundamentals.

PS: And BU's got the Beanpot Consolation game tonight. Wooooooooooo. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Talk quietly to the team manager. Chances are a squirt team manager may be inexperienced, maybe first time. There are ways to find more ice, whether indoor or outdoor. The team manager may not be aware of the ways and may not even know that more practice ice is desired if the coach doesn't ask. When I managed, I networked with other managers in the association to find more ice. We shared ice, even beyond what we were assigned, got extra outdoor times and found some indoor ice that we could share the cost of. Chances are your association has some sort of ice exchange set up on the website where teams sell ice they can't use. If it's too late for this season, keep it in mind for next season. Feel free to e-mail me through this site if you need ideas on it. No substitute for time on the ice - assuming it is well planned and executed (that's the other key - don't waste ice time figuring out what's next, or warming up, or arguing, or screwing around - just don't waste it).

Nice post, old man. I agree with everything you said.

At the squirt level, I'd rather play 20 games or so than the 35 allowed. As a coach, I don't need game time, I need practice time to work on the fundamentals or skating, passing, shooting, and to some extent, stickhandling. (I believe stickhandling is developed through the other three, and that if a kid wants to get good hands, there must be time put in off the ice.) Practice time is so valuable because the kids are so raw and can get exponentially better fundamentally week by week, so long as they have the proper time on the ice. It is crucial that the coaches learn how valuable ice time is, and that proper usage and practice plan efficiency is vital in the improvement of the kids.

As goldy stated, if you ever have any questions or whatnot, please shoot me an email through USCHO and I can do my best to help you.
