Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

Monin' ya'll. time to whip these youngin's into shape. The smell of the rink in the morning is quite awesome.

Hope everyone had a good and safe new year!

I got to do my first scouting assignment of my coaching career last night in Shakopee. New Prague played there and it's a bit section tilt for is Saturday. Their defenseman aren't good. Lots of pressure on em and if we skate at the level we can, I don't know how they keep up. It's still high school boys we're talking about, though.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

Are you converting to Judaism in 2015? ;)

Or maybe the world is ending in 2015.
Well, I was a Unitarian at one point :p

4 degrees. First time in the 10 yrs I have been at this place we are having delayed opening.

Although we got just a dusting of snow, it is very slippery because we also got some freezing rain. When I walked one block to the Starbucks I was very careful, but when the wind gusted, which it did a lot, I could feel that I was slipping.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

Morning Lodge.

Good morning!
So you guys are saying it's going to be a wee chilly when I return on Sunday?

No, don't listen to them. You'll be fine getting off the plane in t-shirt and shorts.

Mavsy - is it the high school team or the squirts who practice early mornings there? Around here it's always been right after school for the high school teams (at least since they moved it inside).

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

Over 6" on the ground so far. Single digit temps, (-) wind chill... welcome to New England.

Ever since the snow started my wife has been looking through the window. If it get's really bad I guess I'll have to let her in! :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

-8 or so on the way into the office this morning, so it probably got to -10 or -12 last night. Monday night to Tuesday is going to be the worst of it here. Monday night could push -20 and Tuesday's high is supposed to be -2 here.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

Yes, yes, I would. I despise cold. I'll take snow any day, any conditions. Maybe you heard, but our high this coming Monday is -14. MINUS 14. Gimme the 3 feet of snow and whiteout conditions.
Driving in this morning, the radio said that they changed the forecast, now the high for Monday, according to this specific forecast, is -17.

The cold doesn't bother me, but I do agree, large amounts of snow is much less annoying than bitter cold. Overall, I'm OK with both.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

I don't know man. That amount of snow is a lot of work and will test your resolve. Especially after the plow buries the end of the driveway in a 4 foot pile.

I'd much rather go to "work" than have that kind of "snow day."
Ehh, that doesn't bother me. I have a plow on the 4 wheeler, I've handled Houghton winters with it, with ease. The worst one here I've dealt with was the storm that collapsed the dome, there was a 5' drift in front of the garage for that one. There is no snow I can't take down quickly and cleanly.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

Yo.

Heat wave today! 22 is the high!

Grey: Sunday won't be that cold, so don't worry.

My brother got an ATV this past spring, a Polaris, and got a few attachments for it, one being a plow. He didn't think anything of it when putting the plow onto the ATV, but Polaris didn't include any locking pins for the bolts used to hold the plow in place. The plow fell off when he was using it. He went back to the dealership to get replacement pins, pointed out the issue to the owner of the place, and the owner was dumbfounded, handed my brother replacement pins free of charge. Nobody at the dealership had ever really noticed the design flaw in the past. My brother is now looking to replace his ATV before next winter, a brand other than Polaris.

It's going to be warm Sunday morning, but it's supposed to be windy with falling temps all day. The only question now is how fast they fall.

I once had a Polaris...I didn't buy another one. I like the idea of Polaris being built in MN, but the quality is so subpar that I couldn't overlook it. Also, I HATE the CVT (belt) transmissions that Polaris had/has. I'm not up on the new technology, so I'm not sure if they still have them or not. There were more than a few times where belt driven 4-wheelers I've riden with have been imobilized in a river/creek/mud because the belt got wet. For that reason, when it comes to ATVs, I'm the exact opposite of trucks, I will buy nothing but Honda. Honda ATVs will never die, and mine is old enough to have a bulletproof 5-speed manual transmission, which I would take over any of the new automatics. Mine is getting a bit beat up, and I really need to give it some TLC...I think this would be a good spring project.

This is my brother's first ATV since ~1983, so he'd been doing a lot of research. Time and again he saw that Polaris was placing first. These testers and users must not be plowing many long driveways with theirs. He said it happened within ten minutes of plowing. He and his wife had just bought a 40 acre hobby farm up in Foley this year, so he wanted to move away from the lawn tractors he'd been using back home for these things, Toro and John Deere, if you care, and get something that could also be fun. His ATV ain't fun no more.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

Good morning Lodge. Sun is up here in Salt Lake City. Had a panic moment this morning as I couldn't get a hold of my parents. I wanted to make sure they were Ok in the storm. My brother in LA had tried calling last night and they didn't answer, I tried this morning and they didn't answer. If they lost power I would have thought the phones would still be working. I called my other brother, I called my aunt who is visiting in Michigan to see if either had spoken with them. Turns out when both my brother and I tried to call she was on the phone with her sisters. Of course.

Polaris was always doing well in the rankings even when I bought mine, but I just didn't agree with it. I have ridden both and I would take my Honda anyday. I don't think the testers ever worked, or pounded on the machines like we always used to, so they didn't push hard enough to see the flaws in the Polaris that we found. I'm not sure how they have changed since, maybe Hondas have gone downhill, or Polaris have improved. Really, the last time I really was on top of the ATV market was 12 years ago.

I still would think that an ATV would be preferrable to a lawn mower in that situation, they're more comfortable, and versatile, in my opinion, not to mention they'll move snow faster.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

Good morning Lodge.

Like others have posted.......Nasty cold weather headed in the direction of 320voille this weekend and into early next week. Lows in the -20 to -30 range with high temps not much better. Wind chills could be around -50 to -60. At least there won't be any mosquitos buzzing around. :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

Just in time for the truly bitter cold, I get an email about an engine I may need to work on....in the Bakken. **** me. If I have to be working outside in Western NoDak on Monday, I will actually have a reason to dislike cold weather.
