Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #170: Fair Weather

Morning, Lodge.

Mine is coming up.. Yuck.

You know, half of it was really good. Unfortunately not every presenter is good at presenting. (This is true everywhere.)

Is it the one that starts with " this is the puck"?
That's the one that a young coach like him should try to learn something from. ;)

Turns out when you put that puck object into the net it's not called "making a basket." Amazing! What a dork I must've seemed like! :D

What's really interesting to me is -- here's all these national and state hockey reps, making long, detailed presentations on extensively-documented research -- on the importance of skills; the over-use of and long-term harm from over-emphasizing games; the essential-ness of having well-rounded, multi-sport athletes; how more late bloomers happen in hockey versus almost all other sports, and so cutting non-superstar young players (under 12) literally robs the 2023 National Team of potential players -- and everyone's nodding, and paying attention. And during the break all the Squirt coaches (the kids would be 9 and 10) everyone around me was: We've already had 6 scrimmages this year. And, Our top two lines can roll with anyone in the state. And, How's that holiday tournament in Fargo supposed to be, we need a big challenge. And, How's your Spring Hockey league going to shape up?

Horse* couple days for my daughter's high school (Cretin-Derham Hall for those of you in MN), a junior boy died in a car crash early Sunday morning and just found senior boy died early this morning. Crap.

Another unfortunate teaching moment too as the Junior appeared to not be wearing his seat belt and was thrown from the car. :(

I stay away from everything now except the fluff stuff and the season thread which sometimes I roll my eyes at. Don't have instagram or twitter. So does that make me disconnected?

Twitter is just such a great tool for a sports nut. There is so much information out there that is centrally located in your timeline according to the people you want to follow, such as the beat writer for your local paper, recruiting services, etc. I read twitter like people used to read the paper each and every morning.

Too much work. I like to read the paper or something a bit more static. Otherwise I feel like I need to be on it all the time to keep up. The more static things like news print gives a synopsis. I can keep up with that.

How do you (meaning you personally) receive Twitter?

Yep, even before we found it was a schoolmate we pointed this out to our daughter - and I suspect every parent in the area did the same.
Turns out the Sr's death was self inflicted. Stupid waste....

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #170: Fair Weather

Agreed. PC never had a lot of presence in the score threads unless the Freds weren't busy. For some reason, the only HE score thread that was every any good was the one with the same 3-4 UNH fans. Those guys were fun.
I think Twitter keeping up the games is my favorite part of that website.

First education job related interview of my life tomorrow! It feels odd to be excited for an interview...but I am.

Hey, if you went to Houghton, who did the deer killing in Welch? Gd autocorrect.
We don't hunt this season. We go the late 3B season, that is only available in southeastern MN, it opens in 2 weeks. It gives my dad and some others in our group more time to wrap up fall field work.

Hammer, I could have used your shovel today at work. I could just randomly swing it and guarantee it'd hit every person that needed it.

Mentioned in Extras thread, but met Madre's kids last night; they liked me. So, that is out of the way. Next weekend, she meets my family. This should be fun.

Dad is also in hospital, I guess he has to have his gall bladder removed, some sort of infection. Should be out by next weekend, though.
