Why didn't any of you remind me Mardi Gras is this weekend? Not enjoying flying out of NOLA now. I want to stay and drink my face off.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #161: Needs More Wub

After being stuck in the wood shed for some time I thought I'd pop in, say hello, and spread some rep.
Hi Hux!
Mardi Gras takes place in the week leading up to Ash Wednesday. That Tuesday is specifically known as "Fat Tuesday."
Wait, what? Is Ash wednesday typically on Wednesday? Next thing you know, someone is going to tell me that Good Friday is always on a Friday.

Hey, I'm not the good doctor who thought that Mardi Gras was a one-day deal. I'm just setting records straight while bending expectations. :p

I do know that especially since we are having a Fasching celebration on Saturday in my German class. (Fasching or Fastnacht is the German equivalent.)

So, after this trip to India, I'll have accumulated the same amount of SkyMiles in one trip as I did all of last year, and its not like I didn't travel much last year (4 trips to Europe in 2012). Minneapolis -> Mumbai via Paris or Amsterdam ~ 8,000 miles, total 16,000 miles. Business class bonus of 1.5, makes it 24,000 miles. Gold Medalion bonus of 2, makes it 48,000 miles. Added to my 5,000 rollover miles, I'll have gained Gold Medalion status through Q1 2015 by the end of this trip, and only 22,000 miles (11,000 actual miles, since I have the 2x bonus) away from Platinum Medalion.

That's how my 8-yr-old ended up with 200,000+ miles on his account. (All the bonuses on top of bonuses, that is, not because he had business in India.)

There really is a HUGE advantage in signing up for the frequent flyer account when you start to travel alot, those miles add up so fast. The airlines are pretty good to the customers that get higher up in their "status" system.

And with that, my trip is now booked and ticketed. Minneapolis -> Paris -> Mumbai on the way there, and Mumbai -> Amsterdam -> Minneapolis on the way back. March 2nd-9th.

We had a first today at work... they have actually cancelled the 2nd and 3rd shifts for tomorrow and all Saturday hours as well. In my 33 years there it's never happened. Of course, us poor saps on the 1st shift have to report but can "leave early if we feel it's necessary". WteeF?

For the record, the local weather idiots are predicting anywhere from nothing to 24-30". They're either complete tools, or they're covering all the possibilities! What happened to the days when you got up and looked outside and planned your day accordingly?

I may have shot myself in the foot with that girl I mentioned yesterday. If I did, oh well. I'm gonna be me.
