Same with the g family. We keep things very low key. (I went nuts this year though and bought mrs g Bon Jovi tix.)

i stopped getting stuff when i got return comments. last thing i got for my brother was the playboy from his birth month (may 1970) maybe 7 yrs ago. his wife tossed a nutty.

i am also... let's call it peculiar. i like stuff that possibly no one else likes. i get for myself what i want. things people get me end up in the salvation army dumpster. therefore i figure the same thing goes for those i'd get stuff for i was to buy them something. i'll ask if there is something you want, and get it. but if you don't know... you don't get. i am not one to waste time/effort/resources/etc

Same here.

My side of the family only gives gifts to the kids and we usually set a dollar limit. The in laws are on the other end of the spectrum. Tonight I received a bunch of crap I don't need nor will ever use. They also buy mrs g and I one gift for our house and that item usually never sees the light of day.

I just tell my family to take what they would have spent on me and give it to a charity, or preferably something like Toys For Tots.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #159: Lodge's Attitude Toward Christmas/Holidays

i get for myself what i want.

I've hardly ever vocalized what I've wanted, even when I was a kid, which made for more surprises. The last 3-4 years, I've just gone ahead and bought myself a couple books, some CDs, and a nice bottle of whiskey. Whatever comes on Christmas, I accept with a smiling face regardless of whatever it is.

Next year, I think I will do this.

thing with me too is i don't 'want' anything. if i see something i want, i get it. i don't want to wait for someone to get it for me in a week, month, day, etc. even when i was young i worked or had jobs and got money i needed to get what i wanted. if my mom calls now and asked me what i want, i would tell her all the things i wanted over the last couple months, and have because i got them.

I'm along the same lines as mookie. I mean, there are things I want that just aren't in the budget sometimes, sure, but chances are I don't need it.

As for treating myself, that's what hockey trips are for me. Honestly, the F5 is my "Christmas." It's the ONE thing I wait for and splurge on.

You could buzz up to Braemar and see some good hockey too.

Lay off the cake;)

We went 0-3. Had a fun time and we got exponentially better. Lost 4-0 to Alexandria (was close game, back and forth, we just struggle to score.) Eden Prairie beat us 8-0, it was 3-0 end of 2. Kids don't understand that we can compete and be in games against good teams. Finally learned in the third game, we played Eastview, who beat Eden Prairie 2-0, and lost a hard fought 3-1 game. Finally the kids proved to themselves they can be good when they put it together.

Next step is to win similar games; we'll try and tackle that next weekend with games against Chaska and Bloomington Jefferson.

Family Christmas at my parents' house tomorrow. Mom isn't entirely thrilled in the fantasy football championship, and more importantly, the Vikings have the biggest game since the '09 title game. Bad planning by her, right?;)

What happens next year then?:(

More trips, hopefully, although some won't be hockey-based. For example, Sloe Gin and Quiz are gonna attempt the AZ Ironman, and I plan to attend for support. :)

Ask her for a hooker and some blow. See where that gets you.

Reading the last page or so, it's a good thing that I don't have to buy Xmas gifts and just give money to my nieces for Hanukkah.

Good morning....trying to figure out of RB was getting up or going to bed at 2:30CST. :)

Off to the grocery store, making Creme Brule with my daughter for tomorrow night and need to get some supplies for tomorrow's dinner.

Much easier that's for sure. My brothers and I do nothing for Christmas, I do stuff for Wife and kid, wife does stuff for young Nieces and Nephews, older ones too bad:).

Good Morning, Lodge!

Plan on finishing baking cookies and then going out for dinner with my cousin.
