Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #156: The Ultimate Showdown

Sometimes being on the board can make you a good pile of enemies, too. It might also depend on who is doing the selecting and how much they have watched the kids play. It wouldn't surprise me if the HS coach had a hand in this wanting to get players who will play for Edina on the top teams so that they can develop and grow together. Nothing is harder to "grade" in a bunch of drills and timed evals than "sport IQ" and having low-sport-IQ players is just as bad as having players who have below average skills.

Yeah, that's not it either. Giles is very uninvolved in the youth side of things in Edina. Surprisingly so, from my standpoint. The "connected" kids who are in surprisingly low groups are from families that have been involved in the past and are well liked. Size was clearly considered as most of the kids that are in too high a group are bigger kids. Between this random grading and the fact that the scrimmages test for only pond-hockey skills, it's amazing Edina does as well as it does.

That's because everyone else's system is JUST as screwed up. Some coaches sill believe that the only thing you can't teach is size, the problem is that you can't teach stupid to be a situationally aware player either.

What a ****ed up day. Went to bed with a headache last night at ~10 PM, about 2.5 hours earlier than normal. Woke up at 7, still with a headache. The game plan was to sleep a couple more hours and hopefully it would break, and go in the office by 10:30-11. Didn't happen. Took turns being nauseated and just being miserable. Didn't get out of bed until just after 5 PM. I haven't done this since college.

Completely wasted day. Just completely thrown away.

So Jim Leyland is in charge of your immune system?

No. My lungs aren't covered with tar from truckload upon truckload of Marlboros.

My nose and lips HATE this dry air. Eventually they'll get used to it, but right now this sucks. Happens every September.

So.....NONE of you watched Extra?? They edited it down, but I was on!

Crap. I spent money on new windows today. I was planning on doing the entryway first, but I was able to get 0.0% financing for 2 years on windows, and I really did need new windows, as my old ones are junk. Windows are expensive, but I figured it was worth it to get good ones for the energy savings I'd get out of them.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #156: The Ultimate Showdown

Basically, all they left was you asking about Cheers.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #156: The Ultimate Showdown

Yeah, because that was the question they gave me to ask. I'm not surprised. But they did cut out one of the other fan questions completely, so I guess I shouldn't be too upset.

Scarlet: you were a little excited. I can tell. Your accent was showing up. The more you get excited or mad, the thicker the accent, IMO. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #156: The Ultimate Showdown

See, I didn't notice the accent that much.

Normally I don't. When she yelled in Denver, it was THICK. And then the Mpls F4....it was fine, then she got excited/mad about something at dinner with Goldy/family/MNS/Handy/me, and you could hear the accent grow as she ranted. It was hilarious. :)
