What, specifically, is wrong with the tranny? There might be some things that can be done to get a little more life out of it.

I believe it is the CO2 sensor that is messing with the entire car. As a result, the pistons are misfiring and limiting air flow.

Food trucks have become the food fad in downtown Minneapolis this summer and last. They're lined up all over certain sections of the streets around here, especially along Marquette Ave. From along Marquette Ave, they especially like to be on the 700 block, which is the block of my office building. Right now there's only one food truck left on the street - most pack up after 2:00 and go back home. The one that's remaining is the Chef Shack's Mini Donut Truck. I really hate knowing that it's sitting just outside the front doors of my office building. They're just too good and I'm already far too fat.

Um....I think you're confused, the car shouldn't have a CO2 sensor, and a misfire or limited air flow are engine problems, not tranny problems. :p

If I'm translating this correctly, I'm guessing that you mean that you have a bad oxygen sensor which is screwing with you combustion, either running you too lean or too rich, though, I'm surprised a bad O2 sensor would **** it up enough to make combustion noticably different. Regardless, that has nothing to do with the transmission, which takes the torque created by the engine, and changes the speed of the rotating shaft. Your crankshaft rotates at whatever speed is dictated by the rest of the engine, but if you don't have a transmission, that would greatly limit the capability of your car, since you could only use your engine's range of operating speeds 1 time. In low gears, the transmission will reduce the speed of rotation, so that you can go slower, as you shift gears, that ratio will change, and so will your car's maximum speed.

I'm surprised a bad O2 sensor would **** it up enough to make combustion noticably different.
Sure can... the ECM uses the O2 data to set fuel trims, air/fuel ratio, timing, advance... It could seriously affect combustion (misfires especially). Of course, if it were that bad one would think the Check Engine light would be on.

Greyeagle's going to kill me. I couldn't find anyone to go to the Sox game so at 5pm I asked my dad to go. And in the time it took me to drive over here to park, a severe thunderstorm warning came up and they just announced an Aviation Warning as this storm is supposed to hit Logan right before he lands. I should have just gone by myself.

drove through that coming home as it was just forming in concord. hail stones beat the hell outta my car dammit!!

I gave up and when my dad got there we just decided to leave. The rain just started as we got to the car.

I'm thinking that if an O2 sensor is failed in a way that it would be that far off, it would throw a code, recognize that the sensor is failed and go into an open loop operation. That is the way it works on our SI stoich engines.

We actually landed on time but had to wait for a 25 minutes before we could pahk at the gate. Few minutes later we probably would have circled. :)
Boyleston Street is wonderful.....and love McGreevy's.

i am a fan of the pour house next door. when i worked in that neighborhood i would eat lunch there 3-4 times a week.

This is a regular kindergarten, isn't it? If so, it is good to hear that he has been able to make friends. Kids at that age (and older) usually do not take to other kids who are "different".

I'm thinking that if an O2 sensor is failed in a way that it would be that far off, it would throw a code, recognize that the sensor is failed and go into an open loop operation. That is the way it works on our SI stoich engines.

Pretty sure I have a bad O2 sensor on my Jeep as a matter of fact, and it's done just that. :o Makes the mileage a bit worse, but otherwise doesn't do much.

LwB, what else is the car doing (or not doing?) It's possible you have a chronic problem with the O2 sensor being bad, which isn't severe but could affect drivability, and recently had a problem with the transmission crapping out. Sometimes the transmission issues can be fixed or minimized by checking and adding transmission fluid, but usually not. :(
