Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #155: Back to School

I spent the day shredding documents at home. It's not as fun as it sounds.

My mom had a ton of old documents lying around that can't just be tossed, and so I've started working on them. I figure that after three large trash bags filled, I'm somewhere between 5-10% finished. I can't believe the amount of documents I've found this summer - the earliest I recall seeing go back to 1978.
Whenever someone shreds mine they will have to go back to 1964 when I opened my first checking account. I still have all of the statements, check stubs, etc.

Somebody's going to curse your dead body.

Good Morning Lodge.

Next on "Hoarders Buried Alive" the sad story of Ralph Baer and his bicycle...

Unless it is something of interest to future generations, it should all be gone after 5 years at the longest.

Mine don't go back as far, but I still have a lot of that crap. I should plan to shread for, like, 30 minutes a night while I sit in front of the TV. I do want to sit with someone to tell me what I should or should not keep. And for how long.

By the way, if you are shredding a lot and you remove the staples, the local animal shelters usually love to get the shredded paper for bedding. That is what we do.

I was once told that if you need a job , you should make job hunting your full time job. Get up every morning and put in a full day, at least, of job hunting.
Either that or find one of those temp-to-hire services to do it for you.

I tried that a while back. But it was way too easy to knock off early and start drinking.

I don't shred my sensitive documents, I put them in paper bag and use them to start fires when we have get togethers at my house. I figure that's even safer than shredding them.

As for job searching, if I didn't have one looking for one would be my top priority. My sister is looking for a job, and she isn't actually looking, she's being lazy. So I'm starting to send here a picture every time I see a now hiring sign, which is several times a day. Those signs are everywhere. I'm making it obvious that she can't ***** about not having a job.

She walked away from what sounded like an awesome job, she shouldn't be whining.

Indeed. Don't like your job? Line up a new one, and THEN quit. It's not that hard.

Afternoon, Lodge. Same thing for me today - writing up a job application, along with some other odds and ends.

I've got my name in with a couple of temp agencies, I'm looking at a few restaurants, and I'm applying at all the major retailers in the area. I figure the holiday retail season is fast-approaching, and if I work hard enough, a seasonal job could become a regular one. And since I still want to work in the restaurant industry, I'm willing to wash dishes if it meant getting paid.

I forget, what did you study at Northern? If you have your bachelor's degree, you could also look into substitute teaching certification in Illinois - maybe even certification for whatever they call home ec now, if you want to concentrate on cooking. You're shooting too low if you stay with retail work, unless you happen to find a small shop willing to pay well and promote quickly (in my opinion.)

Psychology- grad school prep. And since I live in Michigan, I had forgotten about the substitute teacher route. I have my transcripts and all I'd need to do is pass the background check. Thanks for the tip.

I loved my job...but, they made me quit before I had a new one lined up. :p :(

May have found one that will combine by expertise in customer service and aviation, writing a cover letter (I HATE these), and waiting on a reference...then I'll send in my resume.

Problem is 90 percent of them are located beneath a pair of golden arches.
