Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #149 - Best adaptation of a movie title-and the lodgie goes

Back at my desk, and I have about 100 emails that I have read, and deal with. I'm putting that off for a few minutes longer by surfing the boards.

Morning.

Before 3 AM is still yesterday. FYI to Mark and Ralph. :p

I don't understand corporate america. It sounds like my company would rather pay me double to work remote as a contractor than to just keep me as an employee working remote at my current pay rate. I'm not complaining though! :D
It could be an insurance consideration. When a person works remote, depending upon certain details, cutting open your hand on a kitchen knife while prepping a bagel could be filed as a workman's comp claim because your home now becomes your office. They mitigate that risk by making you a contractor. Plus, they remove other costs associated with full-time employees such as unemployment insurance and their portion of the FICA tax. Then there's the fringe benefits the save...

It is weird that I really like olives on my taco salad? Wife can't quite get the fact I do that. Doesn't seem that far out to me.

"Mom's" Mother's Day gift is complete:

$25 gift card to Family Christian Stores
1 dozen lemon-anise biscotti
A coupon for one homemade dinner
And a really nice card.

Change of plans at work not going to Germany, now possibly Basel Switzerland but that is a slim chance.

They cancelled the free beer. Apparently, some ***** who who lives across the street is mad that they built the Pavilion (where the free beer is had, and where dinner is) because it blocks her view of the lake (I have a view out of my patio door...not that impressive). She complains a lot, I guess, and called the cops who threatened this place with a fine. I guess you need a liquor license to have beer available in OK.

I had UConn's outreach people in the liberal arts and sciences contact me to meet with me in a week and a half... I wonder what it's about... Supposedly my the former department head/assoc. dean floated my name out... Hmmm

Hopefully it's a lead.

I need to get something else, too. If I land something that makes me happy without the complete mismanagement I have to deal with, I may put the shovels away for a while. Maybe I'll lecture at Harvard on how not to do business. *shrug*
