Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #149 - Best adaptation of a movie title-and the lodgie goes
This also means there'll be zero movement on those fully-booked hotels until the moment the penalty phase begins, but once you get there things can happen fast. We were just in Austin, TX for spring break, and it happened to be the week that South By Southwest opened. About a month before our trip we wanted to see about adding on one more night at our hotel: only one room available, and they'd have to cancel our original reservation and rebook a new one, all at the higher price of $400/night. Zoinks! So we said no way.
Then, on our last day at this hotel, we got on the Marriott website to check on another reservation, and right at the top of the site it said, "Rooms now available in Austin!" ??? We went to the front desk, they said, Yes we've got rooms. How much if we add one more night to our stay? $199. We said How can that be? They said everybody books up everything one year in advance, just to make sure they've got it if they need it. Then every year at the last second there are lots of cancellations. So it's likely you can get lucky, if you want to take the chance. Caveat emptor, etc.
Of course, that's only Austin and music and tech stuff; not exactly the passion of Scandahoovian hockey nuts.
General hotel rules state that you can book a room 50 weeks in advance. I have done that (approx) for the F4 and now the F5. It's highly recommended. So, you can book now, if you want (and I would). The Crowne's cancellation policy is generous, also. Something like a week in advance with no penalty or something.
