Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 138: HOCKEY HOCKEY HOCKEY HOCKEY!

I don't believe the point of this is to create more bureaucracy. Doctors are far too ignorant when it comes to the purpose of the various lab tests at their disposal, and it leads to a lot of unnecessary orders. The idea behind the creation of this degree and the position it would fill in healthcare is not so much to throw an obstacle in the way of the providers but to give them a knowledgeable resource to take away a lot of the guesswork. It's simply unrealistic to expect doctors to know every single test and its primary purpose - that's where we come in (and we already do it on an informal basis when doctors call us and ask what certain results mean).
Only it would be doubtful one would be hired (at least where I am connected to) without the ulterior motive to control costs. I would start at skeptical and move forward from there.

I was up and out before 7. I am ready for a nap

This should be the official video of the Lodge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QBv2CFTSWU
this was good.

That is what I read here also, I just didn't know what was being discussed. In any case, it would be good to have him back.
This

We do have hokydad. ;)
This made me laugh.

Don't forget RinkPig, Happy, and uwbadgers. :p

I could (and have) listened to Swami's ramblings about the history of the game for hours. Great guy.

Have you met him? I might have met him at the DCFF, but he didn't identify himself if I did.

It's one thing for someone to post derogatary (and very repetitive) comments about a team. It's another thing thing to post them about a specific player, especially when that player's mother is known to be a USCHO poster.

Met him at the Denver F4. He doesn't make himself known to too many people, for the same reasons he left the board. I was surprised he ID'd himself to me, and felt a little honored after hearing about his secretiveness.

MNS (who's at Chez Rube right now) just said: Swami has forgotten more about college hockey than Doug Woog knows.

MNS may be right. I learned a crapload that night.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 138: HOCKEY HOCKEY HOCKEY HOCKEY!

Early seat at the happy hockey table tonight!

Unless MN gets killed, I'll remain at the HHT. Chez Rube's first hockey night of the season is underway, with Almsy, MNS, and rumors of BPH/lady friend. 2 pts on the road against the defending national champs? I'll take that any day of the week.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 138: HOCKEY HOCKEY HOCKEY HOCKEY!

At the HHT from last night. Who woulda think it. Midwestern bias leaves me waiting for the game never mind knowing which table this evening.

Bull****. Swami is knowledgeable, but Woog coached the Gophers for nearly two decades. It would be extremely unlikely to have more knowledge (or to have forgotten more) than somebody at the helm of a major program for that length of time. As usual, MNS bricks.

Les - of course the motive would be to control costs. However, it's probably the most painless way of doing it. If the hospital is going to clamp down on costly testing, better they do it with somebody that knows what the **** they are doing than somebody who is purely an administrator and has no direct connection to medicine whatsoever. In any case, it'll be a number of years before these degrees become noticeable; only a handful of schools offer them now, and their programs all started within the past couple years (based on the fact that NAACLS didn't offer up guidelines for accreditation until '09 I believe).

It was a joke. Lighten up, Francis. (c) Slap Shot

Point is if the hosp is paying them their motivation is going to be suspect when I consult. Their allegence is not to the patient but to the cash flow. We have people who 'help us' with all sorts of things. We usually try to avoid them like the plague. If I knew the person was going to do the best thing it would be different.

Is this how you view the lab when they question what you guys are doing?

And if somebody knows more about the testing than you do (and a highly trained DCLS would), what makes you assume their motivation wouldn't be to the patient? Just because we're trying to prevent needless tests doesn't make us in any way anti-patient.

No, if I ask the lab I trust them. If I get someone hired to watch over things I do not trust them. Their motivation is defined by outcomes of how much cost has been cut. This corrupts things. Call me stupid but I have seen it too much to not be cynical. We have a PHO that impairs care regularly in the name of the almighty $. They say it is in better for the patient but if if the pt has an insurance change then suddenly the song changes. You can only be stupid for so long when dealing with that on a daily basis. Now if I knew the person wad not governed by cost I would be all it. Then it would be the best recommendation for the situation.

It should be a blast. It has been quite a few years since I have been on the ice though. Opening up my hockey bag always brings back a ton of memories. Even the smell of the gear inside triggers something that brings back so many good thoughts about the game and the smell is not a bad smell but a hockey smell. ( I know this sounds really strange but those who have been involved with hockey should understand.) Even the smell of the rink tomorrow will be nostalgic. Many of my favorite memories about growing up involve hockey.

I am now dancing on top of the HHT wearing a lampshade.

THIS is what Michigan Tech hockey is supposed to be.
