Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

S'upp y'all.

This morning I am not in a gay.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

Those odds boards were just *** up. I think. From what I remember.
Open bar of Captain, Jack, Crown, etc = superduperhungoverctf.

Great night.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

I'm working tomorrow. So Mrs. Jon and I had to do happy fun things on Saturday and today. Tomorrow, I'm officially rooting for the Soviets.

There. Laundry is done and the bathroom is finally painted. I only had it redone a year ago. Now the whole house smells like Bounce and paint.

I think most of the Houghton contingent is still hungover.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

Everyone was checking out of the hotel, so no computer access. And the WiFi sucked where most of us were. Very spotty.

Anyway, some highlights from my perspective:

-bbdl and I got VERY sunburnt from making the 6+ hour drive with The Fifth's top down on Fri. VERY burnt. Like, some blistering on our scalps.
-Seeing tDarkness with tDarkette (she was beyond awesome, btw, more on that later)
-The wedding itself. The groom wore a kilt and full Scottish garb (the sash thing, the metal badge things, etc; the cloth was 100% wool with his family's tartan as the design). The bride had a small streak of blue hair (personal thing; I'll let her explain that).
-The post-wedding tailgate. In the church parking lot. For those who have seen pics/been there, it was basically the GPL tailgate, moved to a new location. :D
-The new couple getting a ride from the church to the bar in the back of a pickup truck (they had chairs :p)
-singing all the songs we sing at hockey functions, at the reception
-seeing more of the UP than just Houghton and the road there. Visited Gay and The Gay Bar of course, but saw some old mines, the stamp sand "beach" (that was really weird), Eagle River Falls (a nice waterfall), that sort of thing. Getting some decent history lessons from bbdl/BPH

Why tDarkette is awesome:

Hoven: Whew! You guys made it! One more minute and you'd have been late!
tDarkette: We're just staying true to our color.

(After many of us said that tDarkness can't dance well)
tDarkette: We're trying to blend in.

She's a very nice and attractive woman, and she is definitely of of us. She is even trying to get into hockey!

It's not empty. Everyone's just passed out.

More or less. Open bars will do that to you. :o

Otherwise, Hoovs covered the main points from our angle, except to say that HuskyNation's and melmac's parents are awesome and throw a darn good party.

Multiple Crown Royal Manhattans in a beer mug, on further review from the league office, were not such a good idea. :o They were delicious though. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

Howdy Lodge, just got back from the Boston Pops' dress rehearsal for the big show tomorrow. Was in our hospitality tent before the show and Michael Chiklis came in. Said a few words and I cheered quite loudly when he talked about how he went to BU! The rain - which was minimal - ended about 6:30, which was great. Beautiful night. Really good show, too. The Boston Pops played Bohemian Rhapsody. It was pretty awesome. Too bad it won't be on the national telecast. It will be on the local telecast, which is from 8:30 - 10:00 for those of you in this area. Got to meet Michael Chiklis when it was over. Really nice guy. Martina McBride did a great job on two days' notice.

Off to bed as I need to be onsite tomorrow at 10am. Will try to post from the festivities. Have a safe and festive holiday everyone!

bbdl and I tallied the hours we slept from Thu night through last night:

bbdl: about 12 hours total
me: about 15-16 hours total

Yes, I mean total. Now think about that, given we closed down the bars every night, the driving, the wedding/reception, in bbdl's case some golfing, etc. We. Are. Pros. :)

Almost forgot: apparently, many of the wedding guests thought I was going to pass out during the ceremony, due to heat/etc. :o I have to admit, it was rather tough, but I figured if the groom could make it with all his wool clothing (and more layers), I could. ;)
