Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

Sometimes, I wish that was the only Turkey being served at Thanksgiving. :D

Honestly, I'm tired of it. I'm all for the breaking of a 'tradition' that was manufactured by the turkey industry.

I don't mind it. It's one of a handfull of days in the year that I actually eat turkey, so why not? However, truth be told, I could skip the "main dish" (turkey or ham or whatever bean curd faux meat product you're throwing in there) and eat just the side items and dessert. Stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, rolls, jello, pie... mmmmmmmmm. Sugary, carb-ridden heaven.

Well, now of course we all want to know. How, besides dousing everything in veloute/mushroom gravy, does one pull off a vegan thanksgiving?

Oh, it's a BARREL of fun. Because this was for a family member, I killed myself making a vegan cassoulet: basically fancy white beans, baked in a crock with chunks of carrots and potatoes, and with a nice breadcrumb crust on top. It really was pretty good, but a ton of work. On a positive note, that family member has renounced his vegan-ness. (Basically he got married, and his wife said "No way am I making separate dinners the rest of our lives." And he said, "All right, I'll eat meat again.")

Does Wild Turkey count? ;)

Big beautiful pork roast. That's what I did the last three years in our tiny apartment kitchen. Delicious, easy, looks great, everybody's happy. (Now I'm hungry!)

Lunch time! Time to go to Best Buy and pick up CHIEF!!! Then I can listen to some new Eric Church all afternoon.

Veloute -- cranked up to a nice meaty mushroom gravy -- is what will save your life if you ever have to eat at a vegan Thanksgiving. (Don't ask.) Believe me, you'll be pouring it over everything.
Icckkk!! I hate Mushrooms!!!

I would 1) not even show up if I knew ahead of time 2) leave as soon as I found out.
Yeah, its thanksgiving, something tasty had better be on the menu.

By stalking, killing, butchering and roasting a grass fed Vegan. ;)

You should try the ones I inject with beer, oil, garlic and other spices, then smoke. Mmm, juicy!
I think my stomach just got a hard on from that. :D

Afternoon all. Covering a few extra shifts this week, so I'm going in today and Thursday along with my usual Wednesday mornings and Friday and Saturday afternoons. Only have one massage on the docket right now, which is kinda sad because its during our happy hour shift where an hour massage is only 45 bucks instead of the usual 60. Oh well, there's time for it to fill up yet I guess....

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

Is anyone concerned about the lack of a closing thread or did I miss something completely?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

You can't even make proper mashed potatoes without dairy! The thought of this is making me scared.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

All of this talk of food made me want to bake a cake. Better Than Sex cake to be exact. No hitting of softballs will be necessary. One amusing comment on my FB status about that matter though... "hope it rises!"

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

this thread is REEEEAAAALLLLY long.:)

Afternoon everyone! I got a job as security for the Minnesota Vikings, so I start tomorrow with training and we also help set up the camp here in town, and then I work full time during actual camp, and then also at the ten vikings home games. I have half season tickets with a friend, so they did actually let me choose which games i'd work at, so technically i'll only work 6 games. I'm absolutely thrilled, should be a fun experience at the very least.

Posting on my Macbook Pro as I donate plasma..I'm full of new things now!:p this computer is awesome.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

so close to being done with my project... but still issues come up or won't go away... i'm starting to get nervous/anxious again... which is disappointing because i'm just now finding the mentality to get back into the gym again.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

Take out your nerves and anxiety on the weights.

And bechamel: if you've had good macaroni and cheese, a bechamel is your base.

'Morning, kids. Coffee, please.
WAY ahead of you.

Fortunately, veloute converted to a poulette makes lighter meats taste SO much better.

Exactly. Lots of butter and heavy cream.

Today we made Espagnole sauce and turned it into Bordelaise, Tomato sauce and turned it into marinara, plus we made Hollandaise and Bearnaise. Now I know why you don't order Hollandaise too often.

I thought we were talking about BS vegan meal. ;)

I honestly think I can say I've never eaten a vegan meal in my entire life. Something I'm proud to say.
