Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

And, I guess I'm helping with interviews at the store today (mostly so I can be the "bad guy" and call the ones that don't get hired because my boss doesn't want to do it. Faaaaantastic.)
I would think letting someone know they haven't been hired is a lot easier than telling an employee they've been laid off. Although, the VP of my former company I think got off on laying the technicians off. He wasn't around for my lay-off... the President of the company did that (and he was taking it hard). The next day when I cleaned out my desk and signed out, the VP was very cold while he did it. Didn't say more than a dozen words to me.

At least your boss insists on calling the losers. Some companies they'd be lucky to get an email.
Yep. :( I'm actually impressed with the level of responses I've received so far in the job hunt. One company even sent in their mailed letter to me that "While we don't have any openings for the position you inquired about, we have forwarded your resume to two other departments for their consideration due to your employment experience."

I just found out Tuesday that my contract at my current job is ending at the end of next week. I have a phone interview today and I had a second interview yesterday for a permanent job... We'll see ! To bad this comes 4 and a half weeks before my first baby is due...

I seem to recall that we've had at least one thread like this before, where it didn't lock until board took care of it.

He just said contact, and didn't specify a means. I'm going to do phone calls, because I've been blown off via e-mail before and I thought it was a lame and unprofessional way of handling that.

I imagine it is easier, but I'm still not looking forward to it. It was only 5 months ago that I was in their position, after all, so the memories are still rather fresh.
And that does sound encouraging! Best of luck!

:( Best of luck to you as well. How is Mrs. Chickens feeling?

Good stuff! It's always good when they want to give you more responsibility and offer you more training.

The only risk will be that at some point you may feel like you are doing the assistant manager job at the store clerk pay rate.

So, if I'm already acting in all of the roles of my new position at work, shouldn't I be receiving the appropriate compensation as well? Oye...
Turns out I can predict the future! :D

Saw a uniquely honest panhandler on the mall today. His scribble on cardboard read "I need a cold beer."

I appreciate the honesty, but I still didn't give him any money.

You know who seems even more upset when you don't give them money on the street? The people who are either soliciting for the environment or for the sponsorship of children in other countries.

I understand they are trying to both capture impulse buying and your feelings about those that need help. But really? At least the bums only want $0.50 to a $1.00.

Yeah, yeah. The thing is, my position change officially goes in to effect 8/1. So, I knew this was coming too, but like I said, I'm just whining. Though, after reading aparch and Chickens' posts, I want to kick my own arse for doing so.

Nicely done on his part.

I usually spot them half a block away and avoid them. I never make eye contact with them and mumble soemthing and walk by when they try to stop me.

Heh, I am not crossing the street or walking out of my way simply to avoid telling them i'm not interested.

I've noticed another tactic they use, at least in Uptown, is to have college age co-ed's do the soliciting. I guess they think we are less likely to freak out on them.

"Sorry honey, I'm on my way to the bar. No time to chit chat about poor children in third world countries. Hey, wanna come have a drink?" ;) :D

While I do get frustrated with the hunt (and I read before the "I'm Laid Off" thread got deleted that others on this board have been unemployed for longer)... I do have an upbeat outlook on it so far. While I've been utilizing most of the days indoors to job hunt (thank you sudden heat wave), I do have plenty of time to hit the golf course, or get ignored by people for asking them to see a movie now that I have a day(s) off. ;)

I don't cross the street, but I'll try to get to the other side of the sidewalk so they have to chase me. Then I tell them I'm not interested or it's against my religeon.

Afternoon Lodge. Our Pharmacy Team Lead is leaving in a few months. I've had 4or 5 people try to talk me into applying. Seriously considering it.

Do it!

Afternoon, Lodge. Just pulled a batch of chocolate chip biscotti from the oven and have made the dough for my bacon and chocolate chip cookies. Tomorrow I'm making my mint chocolate chip cookies, regular chocolate chip cookies, and possibly hermits.
