Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #131: Spring is here!

HAPPY HOCKEY TABLE!!!! Thrilling 2-1 win over Princeton, just the 3rd time SLU has pulled off consecutive victories all season, and first time on the road, kinda (They beat UNH then Sacred Heart, both on the road). Our last 5 goals in the 2 wins were all scored by 2 freshmen, and our freshman goalie led us to victory both nights, 48 stops tonight! On to Yale next weekend, hopefully I can see 2 (or more!) games!

Also had sushi for the first time tonight, now I'm wondering what took me so long.

It is weird how fish, or any sea-faring animal, isn't meat. I have heard the reasons, but I still don't understand it.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #131: Spring is here!

I thought Lent didn't start til Wednesday? Thats why I was told that Fat Tuesday is a big deal because thats suppost to be about the last day you can have whatever you're abstaining from for Lent. Thus why Paczki's are nothing but sugery calorie bombs!! :D

One more week until spring break :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #131: Spring is here!

I've never quite understood the whole meat thing for Lent. Whatever though. It helps the fish industry and more juicy steaks for us protestant/nondenominational.

I was raised Catholic (since lapsed). I always thought the official line from the Vatican was that it was an acknowledgement that meat was enjoyed only on special occasions for the vast majority of people in Jesus' time (unless you were wealthy), but fish was OK because it is a common meat in the Bible, is an old Christian symbol (from the days of persecution), and it was/still is a staple food throughout the Mediterranean world. Having attended Catholic school for most of my life, it wasn't until later that I heard the story about a certain Pope giving a helping hand to the struggling Roman fishing industry.

As for fasting, even as a kid I always thought it was pretty silly. It's basically been stripped down to a two-day dieting plan, not actual fasting.

True vegans won't eat fish. I know one reasonable (meaning: sane) vegan. Won't eat anything animal related.

Sane and vegan don't belong in the same sentence. Or paragraph. Unless you're explaining that they don't belong in the same sentence.

When you get good sushi/sashimi, it's a great experience.

I had it at a coworker's birthday lunch. I was terrified because I hate fish. It was really good. We apparently ate like $500-$600 worth of fish that day. Between the ten of us. Thank God for all you can eat lunches. I would go back and do it again. It was $15 plus tip for lunch.

(Without a protracted and heated debate about religion...) See and that's where I start to have an issue with things. When it becomes apparent that it was the actions of man that dicated things rather than the word of God.

I grilled her (wish I could drill her, ifyouknowwhatImean), but yeah, totally sane. Doesn't care what other people eat, doesn't lecture them or look down on them, but is a true vegan. Even ripped the fake "vegans" that eat fish and stuff. I tease her about the great burger I just had, etc, and nothing. I was shocked, but she's the real deal when it comes to that.

I know of nothing, and i know i'm not a bible expert, which aligns "meatlessness" with occurrences within the New Testament. I always figured a 40 hour fast between say mid-evening Good Friday to noon Easter would make more sense as a sacrifice... the meatless Friday just such an odd one to make... futher I believe it used to be within our parents lifetimes that multiple days of the week were meatless... that i'm more fuzzy about... in either case its supposed to be a sign of sacrifice.

I won't be going meatless during this lenten season... i can't imagine meeting my protein requirements under such a regimen given my fish aversion... on the other hand, i may make a few friday night trips to subway (I will eat tuna in sandwich and mayo form).... which reminds me... i still need to order more whey... tomorrow.

Worst. Movie. Ever.

I hate myself for not listening. This was so stupid it hurts.

I kept saying "it'll get better" then when the ants scene happened, that really was the point of no return. Up until then, a great classic Indy scene might have saved it, but no. It just got worse.

Burn the Witch!!! Nobody else ran with that today?? SIEVES!!!!!!

Do I get a gold star?

I always heard it was a way to deal with the lack of meat that was available in the winter. THe fish was plentiful but the meat was either butchered already but supposed to be on the hoof for next season. Lots of 'rules' in the Catholic church have interesting historical reasons that have nothing to do with the Bible. The celibate priest thing was about loss of property to the wives.

Good morning boys.

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!!
moanin' monday is here.

There's a place near us in Colorado that does $1 sashimi and nigri. You'd think it would be nasty but it was voted best sushi in Colorado. We're on a first name basis with the chef and it's awesome.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #131: Spring is here!

Just saw an ad for a little league bat 169.99- save 80$ showing a little kid using it. Are you freakin' kidding me? Parents need to get a serious grip on reality.
