Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 127: So This is the New Year...

Is it just me, or has there already been an overabundance of completely assinine newbie threads in D1 this year? Is it already time for this BS to show up? Ugh
This is what happens when the ECAC wins a couple games in December?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 127: So This is the New Year...

Afternoon, Lodgers. Started my EMT-B course on Monday night and already it's quite intense. Add in studying for the NLN-PAX (SATs for nursing) and I'm one crazed sheep! Almost lost it the last 2 nights (for a personal reason among being a bit overwhelmed on the first night of class), but have a better handle on things today after making a study schedule and looking at my calendar.

Hope things are going well here! Good luck to HP on the exams (when will you find out your results?)!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 127: So This is the New Year...

How fast does internet need to be to stream movies?

It depends upon the size (dimensions) and resolution (SD or HD) of the movie you're watching. Given that I can watch a movie sent in SD on my computer at home, it should be between 2-4mbps connection is all that's required for a good experience. If you're using a cell phone, it's a little faster than a 3G connection.

Made a few phone calls here today and yeah, looks like I should have the equipment to do a class that I wanna sign up for, and I should still have enough cash on hand here to sign up for the class as well. Just need to get ahold of them at AAIMT to get into the class.

I just looked into getting internet at home, and the fastest I can get is 1.5mbps. If I'm not able to stream a movie to my TV (I have one of those TV's that connects to the internet and directly to Netflix) and have it not suck, I'm not paying 25 bucks a month for internet.

You can't get Comcast (or other cable equivalent) out in the boonies there?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 127: So This is the New Year...

Grr. My new camera bag doesn't fit all my toys and the straps cut into my arms once it is loaded. :( back to the store it will go. Just not sure when I can get there.

Has 4G arrived in the Twin Cities yet? Would something like http://www.clear.com work?

I typed my address into the Comcast website, as well as the Qwest website, and both said that the best service they have at my house is 1.5mbps.

I don't know of any other ways to get internet, besides dial up and satellite (which my parents have, and is slower than molasses in February). And I don't want to spend a bunch of money on it, I just want something good enough to be able to stream movies to my TV. I'm not going to play any nerd games or anything like that.

No WISPs out there? Its not like cable but its better than Satellite

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 127: So This is the New Year...

Well, after 3 tests, I am no worse than 2 for 3 passed, as they didn't tell me to stick around after this afternoon's test to see if I failed my 3rd, thus making me ineligible to continue. I think I passed both yesterday, this mornings could go either way, then this afternoon is likely a fail. I'll have an idea tomorrow morning how things went today.

I have no idea. I wouldn't know which companies provide that. I'm leaning towards just using my Droid. I can pay $15 a month and use it as a wireless router.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 127: So This is the New Year...

Dinner downtown tonight for The Shots and then on to an eight o'clock curtain as our 2011 theater season begins with a performance of Next To Normal. Alice Ripley, who won a Tony for best lead actress in a musical, is reprising her role as the play's touring company comes to Denver. The storyline is a dark one as it deals with one woman's decades long struggle with mental health.

I hope everyone is having a good week.:)
I am. Came home from the store this afternoon to find a package from UPS waiting for me. A friend of mine sent me a new cookbook (crock-pot recipes) and a very lovely picture frame. And considering I've already worked out this morning, plus emptied the garbage, took it to the road, changed all the cats' litter boxes, and am making a nice quinoa pilaf for tonight's dinner... it's been a wonderful day.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 127: So This is the New Year...

So I took my water damaged laptop apart, what pain that is. Couldn't see any evidence of water but took electronics wash to it, tried it and no go. Let it sit for a couple of days, called Dell as it was under warranty, the guy wanted me to try a few things, turned it on and it fired up:eek:, W Tf is up with that. He had me go into diagnostics and run all the tests, passed them all. I'm surfing again:D Knowing full well the life of this thing has been shortened but....

Check that link to Clear.com and see if that's an option... and I know that Verizon has a "MiFi" device that uses 3G and 4G signals to deliver the internet. A dedicated device would be better than interupting your Netflix viewing to answer the phone.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 127: So This is the New Year...

Hello, Lodge!

We just finished up a 16 day, 3 state, 2400 mile road trip. It feels good to be back in my apartment, but I'm excited to get packed up and move to the new one! :)

Got sighed up for the therapy stone class today. Now I'll just have to line up a few bodies to practice on after the class before I add it to my list of services. ;)
