I realize there is no such thing, but by the end of this weekend there will have been WAAAAY too much drinking.

Yeah... My liver and I are no longer on speaking terms.

Also: Good morning lodge.

I got to be forceful. :) Yesterday morning, I planned to bike to Mount Vernon, then turn around, cross the Wilson Bridge (I-95) on the pedestrian/bike path and return home on the east (north) side of the Potomac. As I was riding to Mount Vernon on the bike trail I noticed signs stating that the Parkway would soon be closed. I also noticed a lot of buses heading toward Mount Vernon. I correctly predicted that there would be a race of some kind on the parkway.

When I got to MV, I noticed a lot of tents set up and a great many runners jogging or milling around. (Some wore numbers over 2000.) I asked one what was going on. She said there was a half marathon scheduled to begin in a half hour. She added that they were heading north on the MV Parkway, crossing the Wilson Bridge and going to National Harbor. I quickly calculated that even it my greatly diminished speed at my age, I would stay ahead of the runners to the point where they would diverge from my route after the bridge.

So I started back the eight miles to the bridge and saw at the foot of the bridge a water station still being set up. I passed the nine-mile mark on the bridge, but at the far side of the bridge there was a policeman sending everyone (mainly people going for a Sunday stroll and a few bikers like me) back from Maryland to Virginia.

I asked him what was going on, and he said there was a race, and he was sending everyone back. My comment was, why not tell me this before I crossed the bridge. He said that wasn't his responsibility. I should have said something to the effect that I was going to diverge from the runners' route in less than a half mile and sending me back head on into the runners made no sense at all, but I was so incredulous about the situation that I just turned around.

Needless to say when I reached the VA side of the river, the lead runners had not yet shown up, and I then headed away from them.

Good Morning Lodge.

Had a good weekend. Went to the Vikings game with CHA, painful loss, ugh. :(

Just got a call from my supervisor, looks like I'm going to Houston this week, kinda short notice. Looking forward too it, I haven't been to Houston before.

This made me laugh.

Anyone who has been to Houston would know you don't look forward to going there. :D

Whadda ya mean? There's some nice titty bars and then the 'Stros park and the Aeros and the NASA visitor's center to see.

Other than that, it's miserably hot and sticky with horrendous traffic and cockroaches the size of terriers. ;)

Crap, the Astros aren't in town! It would have been fun to see another baseball park when I'm there.

Sounds like I'll be flying down there tommorrow. Glad I'm not on the hook for paying for that last minute airfare.

yeah man, Houston is a dump, but hopefully you find a way to have a good time. Are you flying Continental down?

A beautiful, late summer morning here in Denver. Temperature broke a record for the date when it hit ninety-six yesterday. Another record breaking day could be on the way to start the week. I hope everyone has a good week. :)

Morning, Lodge. Another gray day here in 763ville - guess I should have mowed the lawn and finished splitting firewood yesterday. Oops. ;)

I haven't bought tickets yet, still waiting to hear from my supervisor to find out exactly when I have to be there. I think I'll fly Delta, Delta is the company's "preferred provider", so I have to fly them if Delta's price is within $100 of the cheapest flight, which it was when I looked about an hour ago. And I'll get free frequent flyer miles if I fly Delta.

Glad I'm not you. Went in there on a tug/barge combo 2 winters ago before flying home that afternoon, only good part about that was the airport was decent. Unfortunately I had to standby all day hoping to get on an earlier flight (new years eve day), ended up getting on the next earlier flight to philly, but we had mechanical issues so I ended up on the same flight from Philly that I was scheduled for anyways. Sat in the ****ing airport all day, and watched the ball drop from LGA. Then proceeded to drive home from school, leaving at 1am and arriving at 7am. Oh, how I didn't enjoy the 0000-0600/1200-1800 watch cycle, but it did set me up to make the drive home as opposed to sleeping in my car.

/reminiscing rant.
