Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 120: How do you want to die?

The land speed records have been set using aircraft engines (I believe one was actually just a modified F-4)...once again, Geist and air travel win.

Was the engine in a plane? No.
Was it in a car/land-based vehicle? Yes.

Sorry, try again.

And I remind you of Geist's actual claim.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 120: How do you want to die?

So now you change to car or land based vehicle...his original claim was a car. :p

Fine. Was the engine in a car? Yes.

And again I remind you, and note the bolded part:

my mode of transportation involves flying at 40,000 feet, moving at speeds that cars will never achieve, going places that I will never need a car, and requires finesse to not kill people.

Your move, skippy. :p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 120: How do you want to die?

But yeah, that was an awesome plane.
One of skunkworks' finest achievements. I'd call it more of a rocket than a plane - the thing leaked fuel on the ground because the tanks would seal as it flew.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 120: How do you want to die?

Good morning, Lodge.

The funeral was good yesterday; lots of people there, including my brother and family I haven't seen in years. And everyone I talked to reminded me that Mom isn't suffering anymore... that's the one thing I'm taking comfort in right now.
9/11 happened when lil was 5. He asked me why everyone was sad because all the dead people were with God so they were happy. In the intervening yrs I have lost a few very important people in my life and I think of what he said every time. (the grammar police would massacre that sentence structure)

Good morning Lodge.

A good friend of the g family has been having some health issues the last couple weeks. Received a text last night. "Mayo Clinic contacted us with the results that we anticipated. I officially have been diagnosed with lymphoma."

I am at a loss for words. Less than six weeks ago another friend of ours (same circle of friends) lost his battle with cancer. Please say an extra prayer for Mrs. g as she is really struggling with this as she is still grieving over the passing of our friend and now this.........:(

Edit - sorry to be a buzkill to all the car/house talk. :)
:( Cancer stinx!!

I thought I'd pass along some of my good news. My friend who was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma just emailed me to tell me she had her 2-month PET scan and her tumor is gone! She is now done with chemo and will start a course of radiation in a couple of weeks to kill any final traces. I am so relieved and thrilled for her.

gmann - this is why I asked if you knew which type, as the cure rate is quite high with this kind. I hope and pray for your friend to have a similar success. While cancer deserves an F U from all of us, it does sometimes have a positive outcome.
Great to hear.:)

I can put gas in the car and change the oil and change a tire. Other than that I am about as useful as a Tech hockey player at a goal scoring contest. :D ;)

Any predictions for the queens game tonight?
I had a 66 chevy and changed the engine gasket- successfully:D Now I couldn't find said gasket. Where did all the straight 6 engines go?

Good Evening, Lodge!

I am in Jamestown, ND on my way out to Medora, ND for the memorial service.

Bob - I am glad that things went well.

gmann - Sorry to hear about your friend.

My thoughts are with the both of you.

legal - Cute pictures of Maggie.
Hope all goes well and there isn't too much of a soap opera.

Sounds like the guy from 'An Officer and a Gentleman'

I got started on my college hockey fix tonight.
Lil starts hockey tonight. They didn't have enough kids for 2 teams so they may play both teams schedule- this is insane. If they try that he would have a game 9 tonight, practice 8-10AM, game at 6:50P, game at 9PM, practice 8-10 Sunday and then game at 4:30. Add into that that every practice conflicts with his XC stuff and he is not a happy camper. Neither is the taxi. He will probably get to do less than 50% of hockey cos he can't skate and race the next day.:(

When we lived behind Hanscom they would send the F15s out and the neighborhood would have a canary. They were supposed to boom over the ocean. They never waited that long.
GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!! friday is here.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 120: How do you want to die?

Hm, really tempting to kill the last half of my vodka bottle from last weekend to reward myself with a new bottle tomorrow... question is how risky I want to play my cards tonight (dry campus, zero tolerance. Getting caught would mean restriction to campus + fired from RA spot + paying $6200 in room and board that I'm currently getting for free.) Decisions Decisions Decisions....
Aren't you the one that's supposed to be catching people? If so....who's gonna catch you?
quis custodiet custodes?

Good Friday morning, Lodge!

Only 22 days now.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 120: How do you want to die?

That is quite a comfort (having worked in a hospital and closely with a doctor - my dad- for years; it's amazing how much the alleviation of suffering can impact a family for the better).
I echo the sentiments that perhaps this will bring your family closer.

Bob & gmann - my thoughts and prayers are with you and your families at this difficult time. :(

Bob, I generally stay away from commenting on the bad things that happen to other people, due to the fact that I'm not very good with things like that, and the fact that I also tend to let people have their space in times like this, but I was very sorry (and shocked) to hear of your mother's passing. I wish you nothing but the best in dealing with her passing and everything related. (told you I wasn't very good at this)

It's hard not to sound trite, Bob, but I really hope your family becomes stronger in the aftermath. Good luck, and my condolences again. :(
Thanks again, everyone. My family has become closer and stronger in the past week, and my dad and I are starting to get back into the daily routine. I just know the best way to honor Mom is to keep going, to enjoy life, to keep fighting...

F Cancer.

Good morning, Lodge. Gotta go to work today, and there's fresh coffee and oatmeal in the kitchen if you want it.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 120: How do you want to die?

That sounds right to me, but honestly, I don't know much at all about planes. The land speed record was supersonic, don't think passenger jets break the sound barrier, except for the old concorde.

yeah, in a modified "car" that really isn't much of a car and that no one except the very rich and fortunate will ever have the chance to operate.

Do you get to break the sound barrier? if not, who cares:D

technically yes, I do. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 120: How do you want to die?

Good Morning, Lodge!

Off to Medora/Beach, ND today. Hopefully the rain will be gone by the time I get to Bismark.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 120: How do you want to die?

I will never buy a car that is Hyundai, Honda, Mazda, Toyota, Kia, Nissan...etc. Hate them all. I'm sorry, but I'm sticking to Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Chrysler, Buick, Cadillac, Jeep, Lincoln...

Well I won't buy those ferrin made cars, like them Fords made in Canada, I like my cars built in the old US of A, like my Subarus that are built in Indiana, dammit! :p

Morning Lodge. So who peed off 'diva?

CHA is still shilling for some on-line pharmacy this morning.

My General Motors Tin Indian was built in Kansas, thankyouverymuch.

I laughed when Newsweek (or some other source) did an info graph a few years ago with the percentages assembled/produced/etc. between the "All American Ford Mustang" and the "Import Toyota Sienna Minivan," and the mini-van was more American. :D

What is "a quite misleading town name"?

Sorry, I shouldn't be joking about where you're going for a funeral.

And, to whom that guessed it was the WBC thread, you're right. And I appreciate the lovely sentiments from Commie and ol' Prince Albert in here last night. Charming young men, aren't they?
