You guys in MN aren't the only ones who can give weather reports. :D

I was up on the north side of the capital... it cleaned out 4 newspaper bins ONTO a Nissan Altima... in the end nothing of value was lost....

interesting day.

Get your butt to MSP and get my mom home! She is stuck at MSP because her flight to Milwaukee got cancelled. I am trying to get a hold of my cousin who lives in Prior Lake so my mom can have a place to stay. She does have a hotel voucher, but she would prefer family. She cannot get a flight until tomorrow afternoon.

Good Evening, Lodge!

don't blame me because your stupid city can't handle floods. :p

I think she's blaming your airline, more than anything. :p Being as I got stuck in New York City overnight because YX couldn't fly, I'm not too sympathetic for your cause, Sloe. ;)

Evening, Lodge. I witnessed a duel at work today... biscuits were the weapons of choice. It ended with one of the duelers being chased down by a guy in a golf cart and pegged upside the head with baked goods. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 117: It's The Dog Days of Summer

Hey kids. Pretty nice day today. Though around 6pm we had some rain. Not downpours, just quick passing showers. And then a double rainbow! The sun was pretty hot when it was out.

So, last night I was woken up at 2:11am by three girls who were sitting in the pool area. Just chatting away, like it was 2:11pm. Seriously, what the hell? The pool closes at 9:pm. I went out on my balcony and said "Excuse me - it's 2am! You just woke me up!" I wanted to say "Did you read the sign incorrectly and think the pool was open 9pm-7:30am instead of 7:30am-9:00pm??" And if they were there because it was unbearably hot, why do they not think to be quiet? Why do they have to overly chatty and loud? At least they were horrified to realize they woke me up. I'll be calling the management association tomorrow to find out why the lock timer is not working.

BPH - was it hardtack? :D

If it was, no surprise that it was a weapon of choice. That crap is rock solid, literally.

Did you yell "Get out of my pool?"

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 117: It's The Dog Days of Summer

No, plain biscuits. Though, apparently hardtack is on the menu in a couple of weeks, so there may have to be a repeat. :D

I still can't believe they ate that sh*. I had a history teacher that was a Civil War re-enactor, and he brought that in one day. Ugh.

That it is. Just about indestructible though, so it's practical for shipping to armies for meals... well, until you break your teeth on the stuff.

It's like a petrified clay saltine cracker.

Seriously, take some Play-doh, dump a whole saltshaker on it, and then freeze it. THEN eat it. Yep, that's hardtack.

According to Wiki:

To soften it, it was often dunked in brine, coffee, or some other liquid or cooked into a skillet meal. Baked hard, it would stay intact for years as long as it was kept dry. For long voyages, hardtack was baked four times, rather than the more common two, and prepared six months before sailing

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 117: It's The Dog Days of Summer

Thanks everybody.

I have had friends pass with cancer in the past and even though it is a terrible thing all those people who lost the battle had it really really bad and all involved knew that the end was near so family and friends had time to prepare. The tough part about this death is that he was actually beating this thing and even the doctors gave him good odds that he would be a survivor. However, with no notice the cancer literally exploded in him and within 15 hours he was gone.

He was a great man and the other difficult thing is that he and his wife were enjoying their first year of retirement together and they had a grandson who just turned one.

He is no longer suffering and life goes on. RIP Tom.
:( Condolences, gmann.

More moving. *blech* Now I'm back in Revere for another week of class and packing.

Figuratively. Parise knows that Greyeagle has a massive enough ego already. ;)

:D

Our guide said Charlestonians are known for their big egos. I guess many are fond of saying the Ashley & Cooper (the two rivers that come together and form Charleston harbor) merge to form the Atlantic Ocean. LOL
