Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 115: What sports do you watch in the off-season?

So, we have seats 5 and 6. When I get to the seats, a lovely older couple is sitting in seats 7 and 8, I can tell from listening to them it's their first trip.to Fenway. Anyway, top of the first, this couple comes into the row. When in front of/passing by me the guy says to the couple "we have 7 and 8 but we'll sit in your seats 9 and 10." Instead of immediately them "No, we have 7 and 8" the husband says to the wife "don't we have 7 and 8?" She pulls out the tickets and I glance over and see that they do.

I wanted to nicely tell them to tell that other couple they were incorrect because when the people who actually have seats 9 and 10 show up, they will be standing in front of me and my dad while it gets straightened out.

Sure enough, the people with 9 and 10 show up, get stuck in front of me and my dad while the conversation takes place to figure out where that second couple is actually supposed to sit. Turns out they were supposed to be in seats 7 and 8 in row 3. We're in row 4. Thankfully all this happened between innings and not while the game was going on. Why can't people read the row and section numbers that are pretty clearly marked???
Arrogant people are irritating, but less so when they are right about something. Ignorant people who are arrogant are insufferable.

That said, I hope I am not irritating or causing suffering to anyone today.

Good morning, Lodge!

Good Morning Lodge.

Finally back in Minnesota, sitting at my desk for the first time in about 2 weeks. I'll be here for a day then I get a 4 day weekend. Sweet. There is a ton of stuff I should be working on today, but I have several meetings to call into, so I'll probably be catching up on the internets instead of working. Oops.

Here at the SOx game with dad. Gorgeous night for a game. Dice K pitching like crap. Not the reason for this post.

Today's a big day:

Battle of Gettysburg begins: 1863
Battle of the Somme begins: 1916
Battle of El Alamein: 1942
I married my lovely bride: 1995

To celebrate, we had dinner at the Golden Bee last night (a yard of Boddington's Ale for me!), and tonight we're headed up to the mountains for two nights of camping.

Life is good.

*fingers crossed for Ewe's exam and GLM's "news"*

Can't speak for what is out there but the ratios here are so bad I was scared when I was admitted a few months ago. I hear horror stories from pts and nurses alike. In our state the BON has decreed the hospital can force overtime and if you refuse you are abandoning your patient so you can put yr license at risk by working unsafe and tired or not working, protecting the patient and have the hospital file against you. End result is understaffing and overworked nurses. UGLY scenario.
But that's no reason to demand that the problem be fixed! [/sarcasm]

I can actually understand striking, even in this economy. I'm sure business owners/management is feeling a squeeze, but from everything I've seen/heard, it's nowhere near as bad as the workers; there are wide-spread pay freezes, but yet, the cost-of-living keeps going up.

Ah, camping. Code for "outdoor sex". ;)

Congrats on the 15 years!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 115: What sports do you watch in the off-season?

Good morning! I can't believe it's July already. The weather here today is absolutely gorgeous, not too hot with a predicted high of 75, sunny and dry.

It's better than what happened last year when UNH played at Minnesota. RockTheWhitt and his parents were sitting in the second row of the visitors' section, when a couple came over and informed them that they had those tickets. After some discussion, it was determined that both RTW's parents and this new couple did, in fact, have tickets in that section, in that row, and in those exact seats...for the previous night.

So, not only did they not read the date on their tickets, but the ticket takers didn't either!
Aren't UNH's tickets bar coded and scanned at the door so this doesn't happen?

morning Lodge. Caught the redeye to Charlotte. Got some sleep on the plane. Now it's off to Greensboro to start the month.
Have fun!

Morning, Lodge. Getting ready to head off to class for the first exam. :o
Good luck!

After running a few early morning errands and loading the car, The Shots will be mountain bound. Have a happy and safe Fourth of July weekend. See you next week ladies and gents. :)
Hope you have a great weekend!

Well, yes, but the game was at Minnesota.

I believe their tickets are bar coded, as well. However, that doesn't matter if the ticket taker simply tears the tickets without trying to figure out why they wouldn't scan. (And, in all honesty, this does happen occasionally, especially if there's a crowd of people waiting to get in.)

Doh! Reading for two has decimated my ability to understand what I am reading. :o ;)

They probably had a problem with the ticket scanner, the usher didn't pay attention when those tickets didn't register, or the NCAA didn't program the events differently somehow. From my experience ushering, it seems like it's faster to point the scanner at the tickets, than it is to physically take hold of them and tear along the perforation.

Just imagine when you have to think for two! ;)

'Morning, Lodge. Apparently I was tired.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 115: What sports do you watch in the off-season?

So, my mom had the horrible idea of having all of her family out to the farm for a day/night for who knows what reason. This is supposedly going down tomorrow. Let me describe my mom's family...first of all, it is huge, because they reproduce faster than I thought was possible. There are probably 30 illegitimate kids under 18 years old, usually one cousin will have about 3 kids all with different mothers/fathers. Most of them are drug addicts and alcoholics by the age of 16, and several dropped out of high school.

I have been told that I have to be there, because they are my relatives and I have to be sociable. Oh joy. I guess I should just be happy if I get by without one of them trying to stash meth in my truck.

You know, I used to advise people who were going through trivial difficulties in their lives to read about the Battle of Stalingrad, to remind them of the smallness of their problems.

Now I can just refer them to post #653 in the Rep Retirement Lodge 115 thread.

Thanks for erasing all of my worries today - and good luck!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 115: What sports do you watch in the off-season?

So, as of today, it is illegal to text message and drive in the State of Michigan. I'm guilty of it myself, and at the same time glad for the ban, but I wish it hadn't been so much of a problem that Michigan had to do nanny state on us. I'd rather see the effort put forth for other driving "offenses", such as habitual DUI's, frequent reckless driving and speeding, and things of that sort.

Is your mom from Stearns County? :D

No, but her family would fit in perfectly there. Somehow, my mom turned out quite normal, with all things considered. I rip on that side of the family, and righfully so, since 95% of the family is just how I described it, but there are some that have their **** together and didn't fall into the black hole that is the rest of the family.
