Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 113: Whutchu talkin' about, Meyer?

I've had red trucks for 11 years now.

This is what I have

Not that exact one, but that's exactly what mine looks like.

This is what I was looking for

I've had a charcoal gray Corsica (really liked that color), a baby/sky blue Corsica (meh on that color), and now a black Wrangler. If they woulda had a similarily priced/conditioned dark blue Wrangler, I would have opted for that.

I'd never have a black vehicle again. I leased a '97 F150 that was black. Beautiful when clean, but that was sometime between rare and never. I washed it at lunch one day, and by the time I got across town and back to the office it was dirty again. I would have been better off doing what the old Asian lady does in the Subway commercial and eaten the $5 bill.

True, that is a problem. However, as I said, I didn't have color ranked that high. FTR, bought my '99 Wrangler in '01. Had the things I needed/wanted: soft-top, full steel doors rather than the half-doors, automatic (shuddup), obviously the round headlights (I'm very obsessive about that one on Wranglers), good physical condition, and low mileage (this one had <20K on it).

All of my trucks have been autos, too. No grief from me.

You have road noise problems with your soft top? A friend of mine had one, and it was louder than hell in that thing.

Eh, it's a little louder than a car, sure, but not unbearable at all. I was more worried about the winter, but the heaters in Wranglers are un-*ing-real. Half the time I drive with my windows partially down.

There just seems to be something painfully wrong about a yellow car/truck/van unless its a convertible owned by a beautiful girl ages between mid-20s to mid-30s.

Do not speak ill of a mid-70's banana yellow Vette.

We're not speaking ill of the car - it'd look great with a beautiful girl aged between mid-20s to mid-30s driving it. :p Banana yellow should stay on bananas, otherwise.

I am partial to, for lack of a better name, this color (Michigan Tech, Minnesota, etc. athletic gold, or safety yellow). Looks dam fine on a muscle car when set off against black, silver, copper or red.

Yellow is a, for lack of a better word, particular color, but on that style 'Vette, there's nothing wrong with a guy driving the car. That's my first color choice on that car.

It is that, and banana yellow doubly so. It wouldn't work at all on an '89 Corvette, but it's just fine for most American cars from about '55 to '79. In fact, my uncle has a '63 Bonneville that wears pale yellow - it works well with either chrome or curves, but not on everything.

On the newest Vettes it works, too.

For some reason, I liked the purple on a HS classmate's 71(?) Dodge Dart. It looked badarse.

Maaaaaybe it would work on a new Vette, but banana yellow wouldn't look good on much else.

I do love some of the paint schemes from that time. Neon yellow, electric blue, Day-glo orange, lime green, metallic purple and all the rest look great on muscle cars - AMC even made a red, white and blue series of cars from the factory. Even vinyl roofs looked good at that time, and not like something your senile grandfather should drive.

Forgot about the lime green.

Like, maybe on a Superbird?:D: https://www.sportiqueautoonline.com/images/1970_superbird_lime_green.jpg

Ding.

I'm definitely partial to Mopars and AMCs of the time - nothing against Fords or GM products, but Mopars are the undisputed kings of fast with the Hemi engine and the 340, and I've always liked the AMCs for their styling (excepting the Pacer and Matador) and mid-size V-8s.

They just had a news story of an abduction in Stafford, VA... they showed the license plate number... they said it belonged to a home in Providence, RI... why couldn't they give us the name of the owner?!?!?!?!? Wouldn't that be, maybe, slightly relevant.

Was it being driven by a cat with a Hitler mustache?

Not necessarily. The owner might have lended the car to a friend, relative, etc or maybe the vehicle was stolen.

And BPH: you know me, I like to be different, and for a classic car like the ones we've been talking about, that also pertains to color. It's the main reason I hate the color red on a vehicle like that. Too common.

The only one I could see is "stolen"... but for the other cases, I think its relevant because it'd could jog some information along... they don't now the identification of those involved.

Yep - some cars are iconic in red (Ferraris), but there's a whole spectrum of colors even without getting into two-tone and different paint treatments. Sometimes red looks great, sometimes gold, sometimes flat black on a rat rod, and sometimes strange colors (we had a brown SAAB - it actually looked good, in a very Scandinavian way.)

I was just talking about the release of the name, since that could "link" so to speak, the owner to the crime, when in fact the owner may not be involved at all. Kinda like naming names when they aren't being charged/named a suspect/etc. I'm thinking they are protecting against a lawsuit of some sort.
