Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

I did my time at McDonald's from 10th-12th grade, and on and off in college. I worked the grill and specialized in closing at night. You don't wanna know some of the things that got done back there.

But all the managers liked me, and I was one of the few workers who actually cared about things like showing up on time and not getting high behind the dumpster. As a result, I could basically come home at Christmas break and say "Hey, I could use a few extra bucks, want a closer for two weeks?" and hop on.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

It's gone. I don't know the name of the place that replaced it, but it was another pizza joint. I don't think the PNPs are in the south metro anymore.

The owner that I worked under kept it simple. He retired when I was employed there, and his son took over. The son tried to implement combos/gimmicks/etc and it plummeted. The son was a money-grubber dick. The father was awesome.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

Never worked food service, and I highly doubt I ever will, for the reasons given above.

Or below, depending on how you read the board. :p

Internal dating drama, bad things done to the food of bad customers, fast-paced, long hours, the smell of food on you for most of the day (you want to get on a diet? Work at a restaurant), varying schedule most of the time, etc etc etc.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

Think Greek. ;)
Scarlet's not his brother.....;)
I lasted 6 years.

Knights Of Columbus (ok, not a real restaurant, per say, but they hired at 14)
Ponderosa (aka Golden Corral, Sizzler, etc)
Eggie's Cafe (local straight-up diner, like you see in the movies, etc)
Pizza N Pasta (food court, Burnsville Mall PNP is not there anymore, I don't think)

There's no rest. None. And the movie "Waiting"? Yeah, that is pretty accurate, allowing for the Hollywood treatment of course.
And how long did you last in retail? A week? :p (Shinder's doesn't count)

I've lasted almost 13 years...can't wait to get out...

Three years at Arby's, 2002-2005. Did a whole year on the fryer before I was moved to counter/drive-thru. Same situation and "you don't want to know" experiences as Twitch. I got hired because I was a goody two shoes Catholic school kid at the time and I didn't disappoint - I was always five minutes early for every shift, and always hurried to do whatever I was told to do.

The owner that I worked under kept it simple. He retired when I was employed there, and his son took over. The son tried to implement combos/gimmicks/etc and it plummeted. The son was a money-grubber dick. The father was awesome.

Rule #1 of Restaurant Management: Do not attempt to "fix" what is not broken.

Rule #2 of Restaurant Management: If your concept is broken from the get-go, don't try to "fix" it. Just accept it and GTFO.

Shinder's is more retail than you think. Lasted a year before some bad stuff happened (involved a friend, a couple wrongful firings which we got hosed on, court cases, etc). Let's just say I have a special hatred for Joel Shinder and some people who worked there at the time.

And I worked at your company for about 1.5-2 years. Overnights, so you can blame most of your stuff on us. And I wouldn't blame you. Overnight at that company is a circus full of monkeys.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

With you involved, I would expect nothing less.

I was actually one of their better workers, and at the time I was looking to make that company a career company. :o

For the record, after I literally walked out due to inept management, I've held 3 jobs in the last 15 years or so (a warehouse job for an electrical engineering company for 6+ years/Shinder's: worked both, totalled about 70 hours a week, and my current job alone for almost 9 years).

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

I used to be in retail at a drug store (I guess something similar to walgreens/CVS etc). I got to see the best and the worst of my town, but then I got into a bit of a situation and eventually was pretty much voluntarily fired, for lack of better terms. I could have stayed and got about 8 hours a week (weekends, mainly), or choose to leave and ref hockey games (making about 3 times as much money, and being able to choose when I wanted to work, well in advance).

Outside of that, I've been on commercial ships twice now. A tug/barge unit down in the gulf 2 winters ago, then my great lakes time last summer.

I'm well aware of the type of people that works overnights....*cough*Dirty*cough*...worthless for the most part...

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

Going to hit 70 here today, and the next day, and the next day. Of course, projections show it raining all weekend.

This will be the first snowless March for the Twin Cities since 1860.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

Don't tell that to those crazy Global Warming folks:p

Good Morning boys!

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!! terrible tuesday is upon us, sadly.

It is still raining. I am going to start thinking about scuba lessons.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

'Morning, Lodge.

I've played both the retail and the food service game. (Coffee shop, not restaurant). I'd work in a coffee shop again in a heart beat. cft--think Cyberia is hiring at all?

Spring Break in 2 days. Sweet.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

YawnGroanMumble

Morning. Played intramural softball then basketball with some friends last night, a little stiffer than normal this morning. We beat the only female team in the league 16-0 (4 innings), mercy ruled. The 3rd and 4th innings were just singles and doubles, as we didn't want to go too crazy.

Skiing in 2 days on my way home for Spring Bre... er, Weekend. Likely the last time I'll be home for a significant amount of time until August.

That's 'cause you got a year's worth in January, right?

Les, when I was at BU, I took scuba as an elective one semester. (One lousy credit.) At the end, they said, Congrats! You've earned your credit. Now all you need to do is do an open-water dive to get your scuba license. (Or badge. Or certification. Whatever it was.) The open-water dive? Boston Harbor, in April. I declined. Never got certified. :o

a little stiffer than normal this morning
