Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 105: 2010 Assessment

Morning Lodge

Happy (milestone) Birthday Mark! :D

Hey, Plymouth coulda used you tonight!

While I was running some errands, on Hwy 55 by the Famous Dave's, there was a turkey just walking around on the highway. Well, for the most part he was just standing there.

Cars would just lay on their horns, Turkey Tom would look at the car, then continue to ignore everything around him. He really didn't give two sh*s about anything going on. He was enjoying the evening. I continue on.

About 1/2 hour later, on my way home, I see Tom STILL THERE. This time he was blocking the cross-street. I'm in the left turn lane on 55, watching the following unfold:

Car gets a green on the cross-street. Lays on the horn. Turkey doesn't move. Light turns red. I then see a cop car finally show up behind the first car. I just know they're trying to figure out how to move Tom (it was a rather large bird).

Light turns green for me, I make it onto the cross-street. Then the cops figure out a solution (get this!): turn on all their lights/lightbars and honk their buzzer-like horn. Well, all that did was get Tom to run away from the cops in a straight line.

So, the cop car tries to veer towards the curb, thinking Tom would too. Wrong. Tom goes back into the road. I literally stopped ahead and watched this continue in my rearviewmirror for a good 5-6 minutes. It was hilarious.

FINALLY, Tom gets the hint and ends up in the trees somewhere.

LOL! They're getting all horned up for the lady turkeys and, like most species including us, nothing will keep them from their quest ;)

I have a great yard surrounded by a double layer of pine trees that lots of critters like to winter in. Mostly deer and pheasants. Whenever the local turkey flock wanders into the compound, the rooster pheasants will have none of it. They will attack the flock en masse and drive them from the yard. It's funny to watch the smaller birds open a can a whoop a55 on the bigger birds. :D

That is strange since a turkey can be dangerous when it decides to attack.

Good morning Lodge.

Home with sick kids today.

I have a neat turkey story that I will share when I have more time.

Morning Lodge.

Too bad I can't stand the Pens, or I could get a Dziedzic jersey to match my Minnesota one.

Wish I had known. I was talking to Joe on Saturday at the Let's Play Hockey Expo, coulda had him sign something for JF. ;)

They can be a PIA, and you may be injured, but I live by a simple motto.
"Never take crap from a bird"
Now if we had some golden eagles knocking us off cliff ledges, that would be dangerous. A libido driven turkey can be solved with a swift boot, maybe several depending on his tenacity. As a hunter, I've had my share of angry geese, turkeys and pheasants thinking they were all that and a bag of chips before they were "reduced to possession" with a simple twist of the neck.
One possible exception, and this is more out of concern for hunting dogs, is the Sandhill Crane (aka "sirloin of the sky"). They can do some serious damage with their beak if they're not quite expired when you or your dog approach them.

Looking forward to it, and hope the kids feel better :)

Morning Lodge

Couldn't get to sleep last night, now I'm tired.

Tried to go to be early last night, and it backfired. I just woke up that much earlier today.

One 8-hour workshift, then yay vacation!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 105: 2010 Assessment

Good morning tLodge! Sunny blue skies here again today. By the end of the week the temps are supposed to be reaching 70!

Happy Birthday Mark!!

If you must have an eastern team, choose Montreal.

I'd sooner eat flypaper.
Exactly. Les Habs are a no go for any true Bruins fan. Period. Ask tcbg if you don't believe me. (He hates the Habs more than the rest of us hate the Yankees.)

While I've seen the bad things Facebook can cause, how much better can it get than waking up this morning and reading that one of your friends closed their adoption overnight (in Moscow) and now have their new daughter staying with them? (of course, I was in tears, stupid hormones! :o )

I used to not mind them, but now I hate everything Canada, except for Don Cherry, Tim Hortons and curling. **** the Habs!!! :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 105: 2010 Assessment

I'm sure I have told this story before but to some of you this might be new.

In my neck of the woods there are quite a few wild turkeys. A couple years ago I was driving to work and I was approaching the off ramp on I94. The car in front of me suddenly swerved and there in front of me square and center was a turkey. I pasted it. The bird flew over my car and then landed on the car behind me. To my surprise the car behind me was a state tropper. He turned on his lights and proceeded to pull me over. I got a ticket for $110.00. Man was I pi ss ed! The reason for the ticket? Flipping him the bird.

Thank you. Thank you very much. :D

Where's the girl dancing tomorrow? She in the parade?

I actually have to be in St. Paul tomorrow morning as we're getting an award at Midland Hills CC.

You mean you "get to be in St. Paul" :) or, at least Roseville. ;)
Landmark Center (Warehouser Auditorium on the lower level) at ~11 and Cherokee Sirloin on Smith (lower west side) at 2. I'll be the one wearing green & drinking Guinness.

Last night my executive staff ran all the possible combinations of wins and losses through the PWR Predictor. The results were conclusive: BSU choked on its own vomit last weekend and it will be difficult for the team to win a game this weekend, especially since the Beavs don't play.

I wish these things were legal to hunt in WI. I have been tempted so many times to test out my long range shooting with the .308 when I see them in our marsh which is a good half mile away.
