Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 104: Back To Normal Sports

Hi Lodge.

I've always wanted a dog. Growing up I wasn't allowed to have anything bigger than a hamster. :( Anyway, now I think I may finally be responsible enough to own a dog. I can afford it, I have a nice big fenced in yard.

So, I've been spending too much time looking at dogs that are up for adoption, and the boyfriend and I went to a pet store last weekend knowing they'd have some adoptable dogs there.

There was an adorable newfie mix (their best guess) there. She's not all that big, maybe 40 pounds, and about 5 years old. I liked her. I especially liked that they took her out to talk to a family with 2 young boys (9 or so) who were very hyper. While the volunteer talked to the family, Lady (the dog) came over to sniff and say hello to my bf and I.

I want her. I still have to figure out a few things like, would it be ok to leave a dog alone for 9-10 hours while I'm at work, and who would watch her when I go on weekend hockey trips, etc.

What is the mix along with newfie? You will get mixed opinions on leaving a dog alone but it is acceptable IMO. I had a husky for 14 years until he passed a few years ago. He was kept on a 100 foot run during the day, if to hot, cold, rainy etc he was kept in the basement.

We found a really nice kennel that we boarded him at for vacations and weekend trips.

I agree with TBF. It's okay to leave the dog in the yard while you're at work as long as she doesn't bark incessantly. My parents have done that with both of our black labs. I love Newfies and think adopting from a shelter is a good thing. The important thing will ne finding a reputable kennel and making sure you don't ends up breaking the bank boarding him/her if you plan to go away a lot.

Newfies weigh 100s of lbs, what is it a mix with to be only 40 lbs? a Chihuahua:D . My dog is home alot, in the winter he is inside, in the summer he is in a kennel thats 10 by 30. Sometimes he goes with me

Newfie mix is a best guess (rescue group didn't guess what else she's mixed with), the dog was picked up from a rural shelter after her time there was up. Now that I look at her description it says she's about 53 pounds. Certainly small for a Newfoundland. They claim she is housetrained and does ok in a crate, but can be trusted out of it. My house has 3 rooms that are connected and hard wood or tile that I figure I could contain a dog to, and if there's an accident it will at least be easy to clean up.

I've made the mistake of figuring out what I'd name her. :o I'd name her Susquehanna, and call her Hanna.

This is fun, out of context.

lol

Damm! In the last half hour has broken loose at work! I was called by my former supervisor to go to a customer site next week in Milwaukee, to work with them on a prototype engine. He said "if we don't fix this ASAP we'll lose all their business" Holy crap!
Then about 2 minutes after I find that out, I get another call from a guy from within the company that I had talked to about 4 months ago, offering me a job and trying to convince me to change groups!

This is nuts.
Just for that, I'm writing you a check for the hotel and tickets. :p
I don't mind getting checks, I just don't like writing them :p

Doesn't rush hour suck everywhere? I think the only part that will suck is getting across the bridge on 694, other than that, I think you'll be ok.

Leaving a dog for that period is also fine, IMO. Our dog is often left alone from ~7-3, sometimes longer.

We also drop him off at a boarding place when we go places, as we've found a place that he seems to like, as the owner says he's one of the happiest and nicest boarders she has... whatever that means.

My uncle Ray died about 40 minutes ago. 89yo. My aunt was crying, mookie felt sad, but Ray had been in rough shape for the past 6 weeks. Good that the suffering is done. Thye have no kids. I'm sure that was the first question that god heard and for his sake he better have had an answer that Ray liked. ;)
Thanks for all the sympathy cards, ya bunch of in-grates!

Sorry to hear, mook, with a name like that he must have been a great guy!

This. Times, like, a bazillion.

I'm going to eat leftover Chinese food now. And I'm a tad buzzed at the moment, though not nearly enough to have an epic drunk post. Sucks for all of you, though, huh?
