For those who are posting in the olympics thread about the lunacy of having hockey on CNBC, I'd like to present exhibit A to the jury:

Scarlet and her Nielson rating box just gave a vote for figure skating, while at least a dozen viewers without Nielson ratings tuned into CNBC to watch FIN-RUS last night instead.

Thanks Scarlet for fueling the ratings skew.

Psh, had mine NOT wanted to watch it, he would've been in trouble.

meh. Boy is a racecar driver and loves racing, even if he's not big on Nascar. He was mostly watching and cheering for Ford as they were using his company's software.

It's ok though, I'm turning him into a hockey fan while he is trying to turn me into a racing fan.

Racecar driver and I got tattoos yesterday. The kiddie, sticker sized temporary tatoo kind. I bought him a pack of Cars valentines and they came with those. I've got Lightning McQueen on me now.

Uh, no, those two words are synonymous. I just didn't want to use a word that a lot of teenage girls associate with Twilight.
Not to mention, I don't think they really taught those words in school.

Fixed.

The Oakland/Buffalo club game was entertaining. Buffalo's coach was ejected for going on a tirade about 15 minutes into the 1st period, then apparently tried to pull a Gwoz and go back into the locker room during the intermission, earning himself another DQ. I was behind the scorer's table with mel & HuskyNation, and got to be in the middle of some cross-penalty bench jawing.

Oh, and this was the most lopsided hockey game I've ever attended, as Oakland won 13-0.

It's not the greatest hockey in the world, but it works.

But then you lose all that gate income.

I've got a better idea. Start the game as normal. Every 10 minutes, remove one DU player from the ice, until eventually it's Tech vs. Cheverie for the final 10 minutes. Kinda like the goalie skills competition from hell.

You all would be proud of us 'southerners'. At the bar today we had the US Woman's hockey game on the big screen. This was instead of NASCAR or collge hoops. I am waiting for the NC Board of Alcohol control to pull my buddy's liquor license.

It was the Pairs Short Program. Tonight is the Long Program and medals. I always thought they had a day between the two but my TV listings show otherwise. Anyway, a Canadian couple got ridiculously high scores last night for a very bad performance.

I was more surprised that the Chinese couple that went first got such high scores. Yes, they've been in it before. Yes, they're the favorites. But to draw first skate and get a record setting score... shenanigans!

Bought a laptop yesterday. Is it standard practice to not include the OS discs when the OS is pre-loaded? What if something happens and you need to re-install?

Apparently you were out of the country during my posts from September when I told everyone about my opportunity for another year with the Nielsen people only to have Vista ruin it for me (I agreed to have them monitor my internet and keep the TV part of it only to find out after two visits that it couldn't be done due to my having Vista - no computer monitoring, no more TV tracking). Haven't been a Nielsen family since then.

My laptop didn't have them either. The guy at Staples wanted to sell me a service where they'd back it up/provide some kind of boot disk (note: wT is mostly computer illiterate). I wonder if this is the new practice in attempts to sell more services.
I've got an external hard drive and plan to just back up the whole computer on there.

If someone computer literate believes I need to do something else, please inform me. I can probably find a nerdy friend nearby to help.

Your first mistake was going to Staples.

We also got an external hard drive, but it isn't compatible with 7. The boy wants to partition the drive, but in all his research he found XP has to be loaded first. I have the XP disc, but we need that 7 disc.

Basically it's easier for them to put all of the recovery stuff on a hidden partition of your hard drive instead of giving you physical CDs. I think if something goes bad, there's some magical button combo you can hit that will restore your computer to a new state from those files. If you want, they usually include a utility so that you can burn those backup files onto a CD yourself.

my former laptop broke and i needed to reinstall the os. i had to call toshiba and they mailed a copy to me. i imagine that if you called and asked (or lied and told them it already crashed and you needed it) they'd send you one.

I was too impatient to order online, and my other attempts at stores were thwarted by idiot salespeople that tend to pay no attention to me.

I realize I look like a teenage girl and dress like a cheap b*stard, but that doesn't mean I won't be spending a bunch of money in your store. (I've learned that I often need to take a male friend with me when I go furniture shopping or car shopping to get any kind of attention....it's frustrating as *)

Always split on aces and eights, never split tens, always stand on 12 against a dealer 6, only bet the pass line and odds on craps, stay away from the slots unless you're gunning for comps, tip your cocktail waitress $5 on the first drink and $2 for each drink after, tip your dealer a $5 chip every hour or so (or after a big win,) ignore the "escort" slappers, taxis can't stop on tStrip, protect yourself at all times.

the only thing I say is have at least 3 numbers working for you in craps.

agree. 9s&6s if they are not the number for me. make sure they throw you any winnings and don't add to the bet though.

also, every ten minutes or so throw out a dollar chip and bet a hard way or yo for the dealers. easy way to make them friendly.

'Morning, Lodge. Back in Marquette. The roads were not nice--I fishtailed and was nearly hit by the car behind me just south of Chassell, and I saw a nasty roll-over accident in Ishpeming. The Jeep was flattened, if that driver survived then it's a miracle.


In other news, I'm not getting scheduled for subbing jobs so my schedule's open in case the teacher I'm long-terming for goes in to labor early, and the arena's cutting hours. Not what I need right now at all.

It's the only game during the season that's actually entertaining.

I didn't watch the game, but I did watch part of the 3 point shootout the night before. Local favorite Stephen Curry finished 2nd!
