Not really. I'm supposed to wait out the bad weather (not to be rude, but the gentleman's accent demonstrated that he was not a native of Massachusetts), I was so ****ed (been a bit of a crappy day already) that I asked him if I was just supposed to wait until April to watch TV again and hung up.

We've had blizzards and the satellite hasn't gone down. That's ridiculous.

That sucks, but I had to laugh at your reply to the customer service guy. I would suggest that if you can reach the dish, clean the snow off of it. If you can't, I'm out of ideas. :(

If their is snow on a certain part of the dish you may lose a spotbeam

Yes it is safe to do that. There is no power going to your dish. I did it after the last ice storm without an issue. (and I got my signal back)

So, with this new bug, I'm back to the coughing like I'm dying game again. Well, remembering the sage advice of my fellow Lodge members, I picked up a pint of whisky on the way home. Lo and behold, it seems to be working. I will never doubt you hooligans again.

Technically there is power at the dish. The LNB is powered by the coax and the signal the dish is reflecting back to the LNB is probably a few watts. Needless to say wiping off a dish( at least a TV dish, others might) isn't going to hurt you. I would be careful about moving the alignment though.

You have a point about the alignment and I didn't realize that there was juice going from the box back to the dish. And since Sarah posted that it worked, I guess she didn't get zapped or mess up the alignment. :)
