Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 101: Saturday Morning

It's not even that it's over any kind of line. It's just asinine, and it's the same few "you're gay" or "you suck johnson" jokes over and over and over. It stopped being funny the first 10 times they did it.

And those are exactly how NOT to heckle. A 12-year-old on XBox Live could do that.

The best heckling hits them where it counts. Do your homework. Look up some dirt on the other team (that's actually what started me lurking on this board.) It's easy to screen out "you suck, gay homo fag." Now "Hey Bochenski, will you print me a dollar so I can go get a pop?" stings. Gets his attention. He'll remember that - and every second he's thinking of that is a second he's NOT thinking about the game at hand. That's what you want.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 101: Saturday Morning

Clearly a group that doesn't understand nor appreciate the power of the mind****.
That and they're lazy so they don't do the grunt work on getting some funny dirt on the opponents' players.

Find a player who's on a cold streak? Use it. Know of a player coming in off academic probation? Use flash cards with your chants. Find a goalie with a weak glove hand? Use it.

I'm all about over the line....as a fan. But when you represent the school in an official fashion, yeah, you have to watch it.
The line....I'm pretty sure we were so far over the line, in so many ways, this weekend, that we crossed it when we crossed the bridge going into Superior.

My favorite one of mine from this weekend "Hey Dylan (Olsen), not good enough to make the world junior team, I see". He definitely heard, and we could see him laughing at us. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 101: Saturday Morning

OK, time to explain my comment:

The pep band at NMU has recently upped the ante at yelling asinine things at the hockey games of late. They've now dubbed themselves, "The Rudest Pep Band in the CCHA", and started a group extolling this fact and proudly proclaiming it.

You know, I'm all for the atmosphere of college hockey, and sometimes, yes, that does involve being immature and yelling not-exactly-appropriate things at the other team. However, proudly proclaiming yourselves as the "rudest" in any area is NOT something to be proud of. It makes you immature little twats, and your alumni ashamed to have been associated with that group. Heck, when several Tech band members say, "Wow, that's not cool", then you KNOW it's not a good thing, right?

*k this.

Well, we are talking about NMU students here...;)

Seriously though, cliche jokes & chants aren't rude. They're just dumb - like yelling "SCOREBOARD!" when it's 1-0 and the first period isn't even halfway over. Or any incarnation of the "A55hole" cheer.

EXACTLY!! That's what I'm getting at! If the Puckheads want to do that *t, they can--they're not an official student org. The band has enough issues with the department head as it is, they do not need this working against them!

Again, exactly.

Or telling Lofquist "MN doesn't really want you, you Wisconsinite. You're the only non-MN on the team! Don't you get it?!" :D

That, too. Way to perpetuate one of the freaking stereotypes, fools. JFC.

Yeah, that was good. And he listened to me!

Anytime I'm at the kohl center, I always have some good ones directed towards that annoying old guy with the signs.

I also enjoyed Gwilliam laughing at the "porn 'stache" chant from tUMD contingent.

You probably didn't hear it, but when Olsen was in the box, I told him that he made a good decision to not go to NMU like his dad. He gave me the thumbs up for that one. :p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 101: Saturday Morning

One of my faves was with DHG (IIRC) and he was taunting us about MN being a lesser school in education, and I used a low-level remark "Hey, at least we can spell!" His retort: "Yeah, but only when you score a goal!" :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 101: Saturday Morning

A good one we had aimed at Yale's goaltender...."Flowbee SUCKtion"

Apparently his uncle invented it. It's a vacuum hair-cutter like the one in Wayne's World. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 101: Saturday Morning

If anyone missed it, it seems like we have coined a new term this weekend. The bbdl. :o

I heard about how you had a shot at 17 yr old and passed it up because of "morals". Shame on you. If the pitcher's over the age of consent and is good-looking, you gotta take a swing, don't you?

His first name isn't Kip. ;)

There was a question on whether or not the age of consent thing was correct. Certain people said that the age gap was too large. Regardless, I'm thinking I made the right choice here, as painful as it is to pass up getting some. I think it kinda hit me when I realized that she was in high school...yeah, that wasn't happening. :p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 101: Saturday Morning

This is why you gotta do research on the state you visit ahead of time - that way you know if she's over or under and whether or not she's in fair territory or a foul ball.
