Re: Rep Lodge 126: Merry ****ing Festivus!!!!

My wife and I have our first ski outing of the season planned for the upcoming weekend. My wife's niece and that young lady's boyfriend [soon to be fiance] will be joining us. We're hoping my sister-in-law and her husband join us as well. Really looking forward to it as the conditions in the mountains continue to be exceptionally good this early in the ski season.:)

Homemade pizza and a glass or two of vino are on tonight's menu along with MNF. Have a good evening all.:)

I'm hoping to get out this weekend as well over in these eastern parts. Won't be a great base, but it's a chance to try out the new schwag I got this year and get my legs under me so I can hit the ground running in the spring semester.

It's the last day of autumn? You're marking the invention of Kung Pow Chicken? You were marking the sixth anniversary of my father's death? Haven't the foggiest, really.
Truthfully, the 20th of December was the only date that didn't have anything on it from the list of December holidays that I googled.
ahem.......
Homemade pizza is always good; what did you top yours with?

Evening, Lodge. Made broccoli mac and cheese tonight for dinner, done two loads of laundry, and have decided on pork Milanese for dinner tomorrow night.

But can he fold a fitted sheet?? If you can do that Bob, then you're in full fledged Martha Steward territory.

Re: Rep Lodge 126: Merry ****ing Festivus!!!!

Take it to JPT in Brooklyn Park. I'll tell you right now they won't rip you off. Mom-n-pop shop, my family has been going to them as far back as I can remember.

Just do it yourself. If its plugs and wires it takes literally 15 minutes to do yourself and its easy enough for a chimp to do it.

Edit. If you buy the right plugs, you shouldn't have to gap them.

What he said. A couple years ago I put in some Bosch Platinum 2(?) plugs, and they tell you not to gap them. Even if you get plugs that require gapping, you can pick up a gapper for a buck, usually sitting next the register at an O'Reilly, Autozone, etc. It's really simple to do.

If your'e taking your time, trying to learn the vehicle at the same time as doing the work, you might spend a half-hour doing the maintenance. Since you're already doing the bulk of a tune up, you may even want to put a new distributor cap and rotor in the thing for pretty cheap money and they're quick too, if your car has them. Some cars don't use that setup anymore and instead use a computer to control the electrical signal.

A trick to the distributor cap, if your car has one but you don't want to replace it, is that you can take a pencil eraser around it to clean up any deposits and that will extend the life of the thing for a while longer.

Re: Rep Lodge 126: Merry ****ing Festivus!!!!

January 1 = Ralph Baer Retirement Day
January 2 = Ralph Baer's Birthday
Other days almost as important as RFAlph's:
11 Jan: Julius Caesar leads his 13th Legion across the Rubicon River, 49 BC.
18 Jan: German Empire proclaimed at Versailles, 1871.
24 Jan: Frederick the Great born: 1712.
I'm kinda surprized that nobody has question why I put December 20th in with the other options.
20 Dec: Gen George S. Patton, Jr. dies, 1945.

Good morning, Lodge!

Morning lodge. Thanks for the car advice.

I'm surprised I slept as well as I did with the whole house situation. Now i'm just waiting for the call.

Mornin' Lodge
And since my mustang is a gelding, there's plenty of space in the engine compartment to work around.
V6? Ouch.
An hour for diagnostics? Makes me miss the UP mechanics. Nothing gets scanned in the Chicagolad region for under an hour and a half.

Was quoted $700 minimum this summer for a new cat converter. Not including the $150 for the OBD reader scan.

Had it done in my home town for $250, and a free OBD scan.

Any half-wit mechanic from the upper Midwest would make a killing down here.
A better plan is to go get a reader from Wal-Mart, check your codes, then return the code reader to Wal-Mart. Works every time. Once you have the codes, just google it and you should be able to diagnose why the engine light is on by yourself. Some vehicles have a trick that gets the fault codes to scroll across the digital odometer display, on mine (and all Daimler Chryslers) turn the key on-off-on-off-on very quickly, but don't start it.

Are you implying Ralph was present at these events? :D

For the record, I was only at the last one. ;)

Autozone does free OBD II readings down here (thankfully).

I have a GM, so there isn't any tricks. :( NMUKat's Neon (or was it the old Olds Bravada) was able to flash the code with a paperclip acting as a jumper in the reader plug.

Re: Rep Lodge 126: Merry ****ing Festivus!!!!

Good morning from a cool and gray Denver. The weather guessers are forecasting a high temp near sixty-five tomorrow and snow in the ski counties. That's my kind of forecast. And now, time for a second cup of mocha java.;)

Re: Rep Lodge 126: Merry ****ing Festivus!!!!

Well, I should have also said that included the $130 for diagnostics. I didn't think they would charge a full hour for it. Next time I'm going to Autozone. So I suppose when it's all said and done, it was $520 for plugs and wires. No way, no how..
Scanning a car computer and knowing what to do afterwards are 2 different things. There can be multiple reasons a code gets set, throwing parts at an issue doesn't always fix it. It pays to have a relationship with a shop you can trust.

Applied for health insurance today, now I have an incredible headache. What a mess & moreso if you have something in your medical history you'd rather forget.
