Re: Rep Lodge 126: Merry ****ing Festivus!!!!

12/20 was one of a few that I didn't get. I fgured that it was my age. :)

Truthfully, the 20th of December was the only date that didn't have anything on it from the list of December holidays that I googled.

Re: Rep Lodge 126: Merry ****ing Festivus!!!!

Hell, I only posted the thread because nobody else had bothered to do it, been kinda out lately.

That, and I'm kinda surprized that nobody has question why I put December 20th in with the other options.

Giada is the only option, didn't even look at the rest:D

Re: Rep Lodge 126: Merry ****ing Festivus!!!!

My wife and I have our first ski outing of the season planned for the upcoming weekend. My wife's niece and that young lady's boyfriend [soon to be fiance] will be joining us. We're hoping my sister-in-law and her husband join us as well. Really looking forward to it as the conditions in the mountains continue to be exceptionally good this early in the ski season.:)

Homemade pizza and a glass or two of vino are on tonight's menu along with MNF. Have a good evening all.:)

Homemade pizza is always good; what did you top yours with?

Evening, Lodge. Made broccoli mac and cheese tonight for dinner, done two loads of laundry, and have decided on pork Milanese for dinner tomorrow night.

It's still in the cooking process, but mushrooms, hambuger and red sauce. Thick, whole grain crust. Glass[es] of red wine.

It's the last day of autumn? You're marking the invention of Kung Pow Chicken? You were marking the sixth anniversary of my father's death? Haven't the foggiest, really.

Bob, you are going to make a fantastic husband someday. Just sayin'. :D

I'd rather have the 28 hour day. I could use the extra 4 hours sleep.

Wait, there's a holiday for Kung Pow Chicken? SCORE!

Car was misfiring. Recommended spark plugs and wires. Told me out the door for $650. I told them to pound sand.

Plugs and wires for $650!?!

That's crazy. I'm surprised that's all that was wrong with the symptoms that you described.

Take it to JPT in Brooklyn Park. I'll tell you right now they won't rip you off. Mom-n-pop shop, my family has been going to them as far back as I can remember.

Well, I should have also said that included the $130 for diagnostics. I didn't think they would charge a full hour for it. Next time I'm going to Autozone. So I suppose when it's all said and done, it was $520 for plugs and wires. No way, no how.

I was a little surprised as well. Which is why I'm going to do it myself. Need to borrow most of the tools (gapping) from the old man. I've never actually changed plugs and wires before, need to learn at some point. Helped my dad a few years ago since he quite couldn't get his hands into the old van to get the last plug. Didn't install the new plugs, just removed the old, so that hardly counts.

Just do it yourself. If its plugs and wires it takes literally 15 minutes to do yourself and its easy enough for a chimp to do it.

Edit. If you buy the right plugs, you shouldn't have to gap them.

You might have missed the mechanics' discussion a few Rep Lodges ago, but mechanics have standards that they follow for work/payment. Each "job" has a time slot associated with it. If the job takes longer, the mechanic can't charge more, but if the job doesn't take that whole time slot, the mechanic still gets paid that slotted time rate.

Example: Job A is slotted to take 2 hours. Joe Schmo takes 3 hours to do the job. Too bad. Joe only gets paid for 2 hours. Job B is slotted for 2 hours, and it takes Ace Mechanic 45 minutes to do. Ace still gets paid for 2 hours.

Now, AFAIK, this is only for dealerships and such, not mom-n-pop shops.

Pole! I don't see no stinking Pole!!!

Just got home from a princess tea party. God forbid I ever have any daughters. 11 screaming girls, high on cake and peanut butter, nutella, and banana sandwiches. *sheesh*

I feel your pain. This is why we were so brilliant in having our daughter born in August. (oh brother) The bday parties (when she was little) were out in the yard, with a wading pool, or a sprinkler. They still screamed, but at least they were burning off energy, and the noise wasn't ricocheting around a dining room.

And since my mustang is a gelding, there's plenty of space in the engine compartment to work around.

Re: Rep Lodge 126: Merry ****ing Festivus!!!!

An hour for diagnostics? Makes me miss the UP mechanics. Nothing gets scanned in the Chicagolad region for under an hour and a half.

Was quoted $700 minimum this summer for a new cat converter. Not including the $150 for the OBD reader scan.

Had it done in my home town for $250, and a free OBD scan.

Any half-wit mechanic from the upper Midwest would make a killing down here.

Beat you to it. I went up the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The conditions were very good, although they need more snow to build up the base.
