First, She.

Second, isn't that an old story? I swear I've seen it before. Or maybe they're claiming it again.

It's like... you read something. A book. An article. Whatever. And then pull out the most backwards, irrelevant, ridiculous lesson possible from it. Do words mean the same to you as they do to the rest of the English speakers here?

He knows what Francis meant. Sic is trolling and doing a bad job of it, per his usual MO.

I love the song "Jesus Is Just Alright."
He isn't great, he isn't terrible, he's just alright.
Greenbaum was a funny guy. He was a Jewish man who, for whatever reason, became enthralled by gospel band music. He never converted, but just really enjoyed the music.

I remember it as a Doobie Brothers song, more than a Byrds song. I also think those of us who are OLD think of the words "just alright" as being more than passive approval.

I completely whiffed on this one. I was mixing up this song with Norman Greenbaum’s Spirit in the Sky.

I don't think you wiffed. I thought you were referring to Spirit in the Sky and made the appropriate comment that some groups that sang songs with christian themes were not all that religious.

I also completely get the point TC made in her post. On the meaning of "alright," though, she does not have the advantage of old age to inform her how that word was used back in those days. And that's a good thing for her.
