Agree...NCAA-wide DI - DIII...and likely driven by the current landscape of DI and DIII college hockey.

Yeah, I doubt it. Like bigmrg said, the military angle's enough to keep it from happening. And, frankly, I doubt that many see it as a problem in the grand scheme of things; not everyone goes to college at 18 or even 21.

I would have liked the WCHA and CCHA bosses in. It would lend more crediblity to the proceedings. Right now there is a distinct "Eastern Bias" to the proceedings.

I do smell a conspiracy.

The Eastern Schools are using Kelly to enact their Eastern Bias ways and lord it over the West.

If Kelly wasn't ousted from the NHLPA, this grand scheme would fall apart. Two of the four NHLPA team representatives to vote against firing Kelly? Wisconsin alums Adam Burish and Chris Chelios.

Coincidence? I think not.

Lest we forget that I saw Freddy Meyer on the grassy knoll. And when you slow down MSNBC's footage of the second WTC tower being struck on 9-11, you'll see that its not even an airplane at all: it's RoboShark. Don't even get me started on Barack O-BROM-a. I have a copy of his birth certificate that proves that he was born in PROVICED. The DOTA is harboring WMDs, and their refusal to allow HE officials from inspecting their silos is proof that they are harboring insurgent Sioux fans and are forming Death Panels to murder Jack Parker.

Not to be negative but how is this organization suppose to improve college hockey?

Are they going to get more/better TV deals?
Get more schools to add/not drop hockey?
Get UCONN mens to go to HE and field a competitive team so we can have another legitimate BCS school playing hockey at the top level? (Sorry Providence you may play in the Big East but you are not a BCS school)

That would never happen. There's a lot of schools that recuit a local athlete, but the kid goes and sign up for the Military for a couple of years and when their stint is over, they come back home and go to college, and a few of them will go out for sports like football, and basketball. Politically, denying those kids the right to go play for a few years is suicidal. The NCAA won't touch it, and you can pretty much just figure on any kid in D1 getting 5 years to play 4 seasons.

I would have agreed with you many years ago when there was a draft but the fact of the matter is that enlistment is free will. Really it is no different than a kid who wants to work to get some money together before attending college. It is a personal choice and free will so the military argument (while admirable) does not hold water.

Anyhow, I'm sticking to my belief that we will see age limitations and it will come soon and will have huge ramifications on the prep and junior landscape.

D-II has pending legislation on just that. Allowed one "bridge year" after HS graduation and then it eats into your eligibility. How that effects the D-II playups remains to be seen.

I think there is an age exception for military and Mormon mission work.

If the conferences aligned by school profile, UNH and Maine would be in the ECAC, UConn and Quinnipiac would be in Hockey East, and Union and Merrimack would be in the AHA.

Happily, they don't. I like the current configuration fine.

Sorry, I really don't see where the push from the NCAA Member schools would really come from on this. There's too many schools out in D3, D2 or even some D1's that love getting their hands on kids that have done a stint in the military. Those kids always have their heads on straight by the time that they're done with that, and can usually be counted on to become captains of their chosen sport, be it basketball, football, volleyball and others. I don't really see why any coach or AD's would really want to get rid of those kids. And the ones that go do missionary work are usually pretty well behaved as well.

Last I checked, sports at schools at the NCAA D2 level don't have a clock to worry about. Those kids just get 10 fulltime semesters to use. A few D2 schools will have their football players be part time students in the winter semester and have them not participate in spring drills in order to get an extra year out of them playing in the fall.
