C'mon Q!
Treloar back for a fifth year.
Moore too!
Treloar back for a fifth year.
Read what some of the Superfans are saying about Q and Rand in the BC thread on here and I bet we can get you to jump to the BU wagon for the remainder of this season
Like it or not he likes to put pressure on the refs to get calls his way.
Let's be honest here... every coach does that in his own way. It's part of their job. Do you really think York or Brown never worked a ref?
I didn't realize wings were required to stand behind the BC bench... ;-)No, they don't and it's not part of their job. Being dishonest and cunning are not traits one should adhere to. There is a huge difference in demeanor between coaches. York and Brown are opposites of Jack Parker, Shawn Walsh, Greg Carvel and Rand Pecknold in that respect. They are all highly gifted technical coaches but if you truly watched them work the refs throughout their careers you would see a huge difference in how they approach and treat the on ice officials. Notice how I said on ice officials for by all accounts Jack Parker in particular, I can't speak for the others, was a true gentleman away from the game.
And for what it's worth, Rand is a pretty nice guy away from the rink.
Any updates on Lipkin? Despite him looking the most NHL ready, I personally think he needs another year in college.
Thank you to everyone at Quinnipiac University for a wonderful 4 years there. I am now happy to announce my commitment to play for the Miami Redhawks! Excited get things going!

If you don't think they work the refs you're just fooling yourself. Maybe some are less animated than others but whatever their style, they ALL do it.

Live, I thought the hit might be bad. During the review the few replays made it clear that there was no direct head contact. It was the final replay that clearly showed Graf got the puck first (I've seen it said that Leonard wasn't near the puck). Both players were going for the puck. In the end I think the right call was made and we surely paid for it. Rand's "diving" impersonation came after the review so I'm not sure he was "working the refs".Of course every coach works the ref in some manner. Not every coach tells the ref a player is diving after being drilled with a blind side hit.
Total speculation on my part but as an Arizona prospect, maybe he doesn't want to go there? They are still a bottom of the league team, playing in a college arena with no current prospect for their own NHL level building. If he stays another year at QU he can be a free agent and goes where he wants to go.
Also, if he stays, is he the captain?
Not a bad word is being said there about the team or it's fans. BC has all the respect for both. As for Rand, yes there is talk about his way of playing the refs and comparing him to some of the all-time great complainers but there is also respect for him as a technical coach. This is not the first time he has been called out for that either. Like it or not he likes to put pressure on the refs to get calls his way.
I'm curious about Rasenen. He'd be Metsa-like as a 5th year.
I've also heard that they are at least cordial off the ice. While they may not be BFF's, they do have a mutual respect towards each other as coaches. That's one of the nice things about college hockey... whatever happens during a game ends at the final buzzer and everyone remains friends... usually.I also reevaluated Rand after I realized that he and Schafer, who play out their Spy Vs Spy schtick on the bench every year, are friends off ice who have participated together in coaching clinics and charity functions and all that.
Thank you! Did it hurt to say that?IMO, Rand's record is unassailable. He is a genuinely great coach.
Schafer and Rand are friends off the ice? Don’t think that’s true…at all. Cordial maybe, friends no. Rand once accused Cornell’s Cole Bardreau of embellishing moments after a Quinnipiac player nearly re-broke Cole’s neck, waiving his arms at the ref as Cole lay motionless on the ice. I’ve posted the article in this thread already and don’t think I need to do it again. In any case, that killed any chance of Schafer and Rand ever becoming friends. Quinnipiac also sees way more players transfer in and out than other ECAC schools, which granted has become more the norm across the NCAA but is still striking to see as a fan of a team (Cornell) where almost nobody transfers either into or out of the program. Seems to me that Quinnipiac overrecruits, and despite having enough incoming freshmen to fill classes, still takes players out of the portal/asks their stars to stay five years and then tells the incoming freshmen there’s no room for them or lets them matriculate but never plays them. When I only had a mild acquaintance with Rand I was put off by his complaining, but after so many seasons of watching him I am very impressed with him as a coach. Sure, he works the refs, so did every great coach in history. Jack Parker should have been called Dr. B-tch, and not just for his honorary degrees. John Tortorella is on the Whining Rushmore. Mark Morris never met a coach he didn't want to defenestrate (ok, perhaps a bad example). What did they all have in common? They won, and when you win people come up with reasons to hate you.
I also reevaluated Rand after I realized that he and Schafer, who play out their Spy Vs Spy schtick on the bench every year, are friends off ice who have participated together in coaching clinics and charity functions and all that. The actual hockey people recognize the kayfabe you do for the refs and the fans is just part of the job, not personal.
