Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 ~ 2020 Season

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 ~ 2020 Season

Unless someone has an "in" we won't hear anything. They are very tight-lipped when it comes to injuries (as the should be).

I was pleasantly surprised to see Desi back on Saturday. Hopefully he’s getting back into game shape this week.

We need a strong fan presence as Clarkson is bringing their band this weekend. Unfortunately it’s the only in I have due to my season ticket location, usually directly in front of the Bass Drum . We seemed to do a good job keeping the Cornell band and fans quiet.

Clarkson is fast and skilled, but if QU plays like they did against Cornell, they’ll make a game of it and could come out on top.

Chip McDonald is horrible...my 8 year son who plays hockey sees it. His animosity towards Quinnipiac has been going on for many years. It is BLATANT. I remember he kicked out Rand at Harvard a few years back for arguing a no-goal decision made by McDonald. I have never seen another coach "thrown out" of a game in 15 years of watching cawledge hockey....live or on TV. His EMBELLISHMENT call against Jermain was absolutely ridiculous. ...are you kidding me.....it was TRIPPING. Why cant the program "respectfully request" to ECAC hockey that this guy not be assigned to anymore Q games... he has cost Q in the past and a 5 on 3 opportunity on Saturday which may have helped pull out a W and prevented a 2 spot drop in the Pairwise. I wonder what other ECAC teams' fans think about him?...maybe Ill do a word search for "clown" in the forums :) On another note, KP has carried this team lately but he has been leaving a lot of juicy rebounds in the dirty areas where big forwards like to hang out. D has to be first to the puck. Too many rebound and second opportunity goals this season.

Two things have happened here in my opinion, 1) KP has definitely picked up his game and is tracking pucks much better than early in the year. Many more big saves. 2) the D has gotten much better in recent weeks in clearing the garbage rebounds away from net and even better clearing the zone.

I agree, it’s a risk but much better than early in the year.

On McDonald, it’s almost expected which is sad. I know they work very hard to get to this level. But if any analysis is done and proved to see if his QU games are called differently, he should be assigned elsewhere.

I ran into an ECAC Linesman a few years ago in Florida. I was wearing a QU shirt and he said he was an ECAC official and that Rand/QU games were a bit difficult to officiate. Rand has a reputation for being tough on officials. I’m ok with that :).

I think Rand has toned it down the past few years and is calm cool and collected on the bench. Personally, i dont think he "disagrees" with bad calls with enough enthusiasm. :) When the camera is on him, you cant tell if they're blowing out their opponent out or down 7-2

He was warned at Holy Cross after arguing a non call against Tufto. But that was an AHA official.

I've seen McDonald toss Brendan Whittet (Brown) and Seth Appert (RPI) at the Bank.

Generally, he is bad in our games, but he did do one earlier this season where he actually called a very good game.

My problem is he's a ref that has to make it known he's on the ice. Really good refs go unnoticed.

100% true. Best officials in any sport are the ones you don’t notice.

Yes he seems to have a huge ego and is always "looking for things' rather than let game play dictate penalties and flow. I don't really have any "concerns"with any other refs in ECAC. Its a tough gig...hard to officiate ( i.e. what is holding and interference and what isn't) its all fine lines. Oh wait... Kevin Curtis, from that powerhouse hockey program at Fairfiled U :)was horrible too....fortunately hes not officiating ECAC games anymore.... or any other NCAA conference.

From the great QU hockey blog
- Is there a more embarrassing official than Chip McDonald. He was awful on Saturday night during the Brown game. Not only did he miss a bunch of offside calls on each side, he missed a too many men on the ice penalty against Brown (they had seven players on the ice) and called a ridiculous embellishment penalty on captain Nick Jermain which should have given Quinnipiac a 5 on 3 as a penalty had been called prior to that play. Instead of a Bobcats full two man advantage he called the single embellishment on Jermain thus the teams skating at four aside. Its time for the ECAC to get rid of McDonald who continues to botch calls time and time again.

Email the head of officials-Pete Fiola (a a former very good referee) and ECAC director about McDonald. If no one speaks up then he will continue to officiate games. When he does Q games.... we face two opponents

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 ~ 2020 Season

lol ok ..but you know what....you didn't know he was the referee that game unless you looked it up

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 ~ 2020 Season

Feola was almost as bad as Chip.

Chip is somehow related to Paul Stewart (former ECAC Head of Officiating) and that's probably how he was able to hang on for so long. He might be the most senior ECAC ref at the moment.

Is this a short joke?

Feola was a good ref although like virtually all ECAC officials he got caught out of position a lot. In all honesty I haven't had a ref I groaned about when I saw his name since Gallagher, and IIRC Gallagher actually wound up working an Olympics so was probably good, too.

I can't judge them. The only thing refs do anymore than cheeses me off is be inconsistent. Everything else is, I think, a debatable matter of game aesthetics.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 ~ 2020 Season

Next year will be first year without a proven stud goaltender...Hartzel-Gartieg-Shortridge-KP. Saturday vs St Lawrence is a good spot for Fear to get the nod.
At this pace he will be thrown into the fire with little experience next season. KP won’t be back with his recent performances and Detroit is probably knocking on his door now. Any recruits coming in to contend for minutes next year?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 ~ 2020 Season

i find myself yelling at bob st lawrence a lot
I actually think he's one of the better ones. They all have faults... the question is how blatant are they?

I'm not convinced KP goes anywhere, unless he plays totally lights out the rest of the way. To me, he still has some inconsitent play to work through (the tieing goal at Yale for instance). That said, I agree we need to get Fear in there somehow but there aren't many opportunities down the stretch where we can't afford any hiccups. Rand seems to know what he's doing when it comes to guys between the pipes so I'm really not that worried about next season (yet...).

QHockeyblog has a link to a google doc with the complete depth chart for the next several years on his twitter page. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mx8sOoc6PXdg-xYKMfjiBT1gYgjgHAwDfn8X0mWhFjQ/edit#gid=426734241

There is a goalie coming next year, Yaniv Perets. I think he’s in the USHL now. I agree with Mark about KP benefiting from more time in college, but I I think it’s 50/50 he comes back. At 21, it’s hard to turn down $$ when it’s all you’ve been dreaming of since you first put on skates. If he does return, which i hope he does, this team will be a top 10, maybe top 5 team all year. That will also mean 4 Goalies on the roster next year.

As good as SHorty was last year, He was backing up the AHL goalie and playing in the ECHL earlier this week.

Perets is in the BCHL for Penticton. Having a really good season. I wouldn't worry about 4 goalies on the roster. It has happened before.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 ~ 2020 Season

Well that was about as unlucky as a hockey game can get. Played really well, but every bounce and every (non)-call went the wrong way.
