Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 ~ 2020 Season

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 ~ 2020 Season

I agree it was a meltdown and your comment about Lee is note worthy. The team is reacting like they did when Fortunato went down last year, but with less talent.
Not sure I totally agree with this since Lee, while very good in his first year, is not at Fortunato's level just yet. I think his loss is forcing Rand's hand using Chorney and McGee while Freidmann plays forward. It's the inexperience factor as much as anything else. Not sure even Jayden would have helped the PP last night...

The problem all season has been secondary scoring. Keep the top line contained and we struggle. We need a lot more from Lombardi, Fallstrom, Brind'Amour, and Van Ness but we're not getting it. Pretty sure you can't win if you don't score...

They absolutely need to come out possessed tonight and put in a full 60 minute effort. Take no prisoners, and don't play down to the competition.

Since 'Gate lost last night, a win tonight should secure a top-4 spot.

Go Q!

I think Only if RPI loses. If we win last night, we’d be all set since it would have meant an RPI loss. We’re 3 pts ahead with 4 pts to go after tonight. Still totally in control of our own destiny, though would need a Harvard loss to move up to 3.

Top 4 is big. I think we have a better shot at beating a 5-12 team at the PUC 2 out of 3, than we do Harvard/RPI at their place 2/3. However I do believe we have a decent chance against those teams, or Clarkson and Cornell in a single game in Lake Placid.

Ugly OT win. PP has about disappeared and that's been the difference the past 2 games.

Really sloppy play all weekend. Need to clean that up because next weeks games are still meaningful. Points are still crucial.

From me thinking that Oden is done for the year to taking the team on his back . Didn’t see that one coming

I too thought he was done after crashing into the boards headfirst. Then the announcers said the trainers were working on his shoulder and I thought dislocation or collarbone. And he's there in OT to score the game winner. Gutsy performance for sure.

mark i think this was one of the best Odeen games this season. but these kids are not together, the line chemistry is off....not even handful of blade to blade passes...errant outlet passes and down on offense, it is just tentative at best with a one timer or tight angle shots. me talking about it here means nothing, but hopefully the coaches can figure this out. In no way was I implying Jayden Lee's game compares to Brandon Fortunato. Brandon was a very very very good complete hockey player for Quinnipiac and he made the team better.

In Jayden's play, he made his line better and for some reason, the other line combos played better than the current line combos, or maybe I am just thinking so and the stats may suggest otherwise. During that 11-2 run, passes were being made into the wheelhouses, shots being fired off passes and the motion of the team in either direction was fluid....

From QUAlum's blog post:

"One more Quinnipiac win or a RPI loss or a Bobcats tie combined with a RPI loss or tie will clinch a first round bye for the Bobcats in the ECAC playoffs. #ECACHockey"

This team still has a shot, but they play (down to the competition) like they are not as good OR not that much better than their opponent, unless it is a ranked team - then, they become giant killers and play like they have nothing to lose.

Champions come out and play like they have nothing to lose every game.

Tufto is a smart player, the incident definitely looked like it could have been serious and he did get attention on the bench after. But the team was also gassed at that point. Big flurry of activity just before and I’m sure the break/rest didn’t hurt.

I remember sitting near the bench a few years ago and I think it was Tim Clifton drawing a boarding penalty. He laid on the ice for a while and in the meantime the refs posted a 5 min major and ejected the player. Clifton skated under his own power back to the bench and as he got there he smiled and winked at Myers, who was holding the door open.

I’m not accusing anyone of anything, but there is a game within the game. Whatever Happened, it juiced Odeen and the team and they dominated play. They still need some offense. 50+ SOGs have to generate more goals.

Very true, the was actually a good game, painful that it cost a very good player from the Sweezey hit, since few minutes after that hit. Hate to admit it was a very clean hit... i said to a friend it was like running into a door, at full speed and he said no, it was like riding your bicycle down the road while checking your text messages and a car door opens unexpectedly...

Billy doesn't score, but he can certainly hit. Unfortunately, he is pretty much the only body checker on the team.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 ~ 2020 Season

Maybe you can ask Billy to take the weekend off? I am hoping we do not see a season-ending, 'angry Billy' grudge body shot taking a toll on any of my Bobcats..or worse, a season ending game like we had last season, with flying bodies!
