Quinnipiac Bobcats 2018-19 - Let's shuffle off to Buffalo

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2018-19 - Let's shuffle off to Buffalo

You’d won 8 straight against us, and we’d scored 4 goals combined in those games. This was long overdue, I think!

Is that right? I didn't know that. In my years at QU we always tended to play our worst game of the season against Brown.

Details and quotes from Fortunato.

Hoping he makes a full recovery and that this doesn't derail a potentially promising professional career.
He sounds optimistic and committed to rehabbing himself back. Hoping for the best for him.

This was a much different Brown team then we've seen in recent years. They had speed and skill, were relentless in their attack, and capitalized on their chances. Need to give credit to Kania too. He made some huge saves and was the reason Brown won.

We didn't really play poorly, but didn't play with the same passion we had last night. Shortridge did what he could but even great goalies have off nights, though only one of Browns goals was soft.

It happens, and all you can do is move on.

OK, Brandon Fortunato out is a big hit....big drop-off expected in depth and emotional gut shot.

At Princeton, watching Yale take 4-1 wallop, I was looking at the Bobcat score, being down 1-0 and thought we would come back and play to a tie, which would be acceptable, then the next time I looked it was 4-1....***!! Brandon out was major hit, Odeen took big hit and they played their hearts out Friday night so letdown on Saturday was expected. Recently I predicted to some alumni they would split remaining games, but winning the games they need to win. Yale is in a deep funk and they had lousy weekend. When the Bobcats see Brandon up and walking, in 1-2 weeks, it will lift their spirits in time for St. Lawrence and Clarkson in Hamden, but I think next weekend up north without Brandon will be rough as will be the last weekend against Brown & Yale. Then, new season and new roles, new rotation will be established and time for a nasty run to F4. Strap in.

Yes, we’ve been pretty awful the last few years and QU feasted. Not to say we were by any means the better team last night; I believe we ended up getting outshot by 20. But we were probably overdue for a win in this series.

It is a much different team. Return match at Meehan later this month should be a great one.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2018-19 - Let's shuffle off to Buffalo

Painful tie to Union! Not beating the teams we would be expected to beat has become the norm recently. Loss of Brandon showed up tonight..both teams played to a draw. Little leadership on the ice tonight as they adjust to the new rotation, but someone has to step up. Certainly not the hot team headed to post season....passing was off, the whole game seemed off.... even the ice seemed off! Get good night sleep, tomorrow is another game....

That was a greasy hockey game. Ice looked like it was brutal, like they were playing in a community ice rink.

Gotta get that win tomorrow against RPI.

Thoughts and observations from Quinnipiac's 1-1 tie against Union

Good recap...they were beating the heck out of Odeen, who is not a big guy and I think the team overall showed fatigue.

Question: who can, will or is stepping up into Brandon's role?

The Freshman, as good as they are and as much as I love them appeared over-matched last night, which is scary. Since Brandon's injury, a noteworthy inflection point, they played like an ECAC 8th place team versus the 1st half, where they played as a 1st or 2nd place team which ranked them in the top 5 nationally (which I concur doesn't mean that much).

The balance of Seniors with big ice time experience and young guns is off and needs the Team Captains & Seniors to have a closed door meeting...early un the season we spoke of 3.5 very competitive lines...I saw 1.5 maybe 2 last night....

One of their big guns is down and we still do not know how painful that is for the teammates but it took the wind out of the team and they need some coaching, mentoring and collegial leadership to bring them up to a mental level they had with Brandon in the rotation and I do not know who that player or players are, but I am confident will happen because this is a very, very, very good hockey team and hockey program and adversity is part of this game.

Whew! Great win!

I know we outshot them tonight, but it feels like Shortridge is covering up a lot of problems right now. He's just playing out of his mind. We didn't give up a lot of shots, but it felt like everything we allowed was a Grade A.

Definitely some things to clean up, but I'll never complain about a three-point road weekend.

Whoa, ugly win, but I will take it! Passing so off...unless you count the knock hockey ricochet goal to tie it up. Nick Jermain should get an assist on that last power play....he also seemed to play with lot of added energy. Shorty gets the game puck.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2018-19 - Let's shuffle off to Buffalo

Not ready to hit the panic button but something seems amiss, and I think it's more than the loss of Fortunato. Shiplo has stepped up to fill the hole on D, and brings his offensive prowess to the back end.

Offensively there seemed to be a lot of freelancing out there this weekend instead of the cohesive play earlier in the season. Shot totals remain high but the grade A chances seem few and far between. Simply put, they're not finishing and that could be problematic if not corrected.

With 4 games left, every point is critical. While we're likely safe from a pairwise perspective, finishing the season strong and taking momentum into the ECAC's is important.
