Quinnipiac Bobcats 2017-18: Chase the dream...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2017-18: Chase the dream...

Good thing Yankee baseball starts! They are not having fun, and dropping kids off the team is big...lot of sleepless, churning nights. Have not seen any change from beginning of the season to now. Lost season.

Lost season is very fair. When I was a student at QU there were a couple years the team fell off a cliff in the second half, a couple years Rand's message just wasn't getting through. It will get through to another group of kids, but for whatever reason there are just some years where nothing works.

And the thing all those years had in common was a leadership void. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a major leadership void on the ice this year. Hopefully we can fill that in 2018-19. It really shouldn't take this program long to get back on track, hopefully we can rebound next year.

I have no factual proof (or any inside info) but I do not think that was the case this season. In the past you could feel the disconnect on the ice. This year, as has been said since the start, seems to be more about lack of talent and guys not buying into the systems. Maybe there's a lack of accountability which I suppose could be construed as a lack of leadership, but the glaring deficiency has been talent. Several players just haven't lived up to the hype. Yes... I've finally accepted the lack of talent argument. :o

Last night you could see the entire years struggles in the middle of the 3rd. Battling back to tie the game early in the period they showed confidence and poise, and were seizing the momentum. Then Union quickly answers to take a 3-2 lead and the wheels literally fell off. All those SOG's and nothing to show for it. The "fun" was gone and it was all out panic mode as the Dutchmen drove the in final daggers.

The coup de gras might just have been the 3 teams in front of us all winning last night.

It really shouldn't take this program long to get back on track, hopefully we can rebound next year.
Those who know me know I'm the eternal optimist when it comes to this program. They will figure it out and be back in the hunt.

Two points they desperately needed. A good game but need to temper it because RPI isn't that good. Until the major we let them hang around far too long. Killing the 5-on-3 pretty much took the fight out of the Engineers.

On to the north country and the final two of the season. SLU will be tough at home but they're definitely beatable. Clarkson seems to have lost their way but are still dangerous and have home ice advantage. We're still alive but we need to take care of ourselves first and foremost and then hope for some help.

Always tough to see the seniors go. It was nice to see Smith and McKernan come out dressed and partake in the ceremony. Also nice to see Pieper get one in his possibly last game at the Bank.

Keep the faith!! If team can get goaltending in playoffs they could do some damage. They have been erratic in net since Garteig left 2 years ago. I looked at ECAC website and compared Q losses...we lost to both Union and Cornell twice...all others we tied or won/lost. Many of the games 1 goal difference. The ECAC in 2017-18 is historically close. Typically Q,Union, H, SLU run away with league points. It is interesting to look at league play and stats. Think we need goaltending to step up and outperform the season in playoffs.
This team can do it...remember 2 wins vs NU both BU and BC tied and beat us late in game and 1 goal losses to Cornell? It's all about the playoffs at this point....and I have watched College playoff hockey long enough to remember expect the unexpected...
If not Q looks loaded next year

Oh, I haven't thrown in the towel. I know we can still make some noise.

Absolutely agree that we need both goalies to step up. KP has shown some great progress since the holidays. Shortie's done well but at times gives up a goal he should have stopped and the team falls apart in front of him (i.e. Union's 3rd goal Friday).

We will be back, that's for sure.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2017-18: Chase the dream...

The issue is not goal tending it is "team-tending".

Team play is not balanced enough to sustain a consistent systemic approach over 2-3 lines and 3 periods of play, game to game, over a season.

I am pretty confident they get swept this coming weekend. SLU is saying good bye to few good players after rough season and Clarkson needs to go into post season and show the team that bat them when they were a team fighting a flu bug on the road....

In reality, they did not get beaten bad by any team, but send to play just good enough NOT to win a lot of games they could have won, so this team is not as bad as a sub .500 record suggests, but they are not a very good team we all can agree. After Clarkson win, I hoped we were onto something bu the cards all fell down and I wrote the Clarkson win off to our kids getting very up to a flu-bug riddled team on the road.

I will watch both contests this weekend and hope for the best in ECAC gauntlet but my focus is shifting to Yankee baseball, built on youth and maybe the next generation of Bobcat players will bring their youthful energy into the team next year.

If we get swept this weekend we deserve whatever happens in the post season. Yes, SLU is a better team than their record shows, but so are we. As for Clarkson, our win at the Bank may have been a fluke but they have not been playing well for several weeks. Flu bug or not, they're in a slide that I hope continues for another weekend.

In a word, consistency. We've had very little of that all season. If we had, we'd be in a much better position right now.

The team stopped for practice in Placid today. I'm sure Rand told them what it'll take to get back there in a few weeks. I truly feel this team still has its pride and I think they'll play hard and do what they need to do. If it's not enough then so be it, but they have to leave it all on the ice.

maybe the next generation of Bobcat players will bring their youthful energy into the team next year.
We will be back!

Pretty simple to me... just WIN!

Team looked Good, not great last night. What I liked was there was less panic in their play even after falling behind. No idea what kept KP from dressing last night, hopefully nothing serious. But I think it helped Shortridge focus on what was coming at him from the Ice rather than worrying about a hook coming if he gave up a soft goal. They got the help they needed last night. Now they have have their fate in their own hands.

Let’s Go Bobcats
